🚀Day 2 of the Orange Wholesale Summit 2024 gathered our global Wholesale community and Affiliates for another inspiring day. Reinventing the future of Wholesale and Infrastructure : The needs for connectivity will increase exponentially in the coming years. Without networks nothing works. As a telecom leader, that’s a huge opportunity and a huge responsibility, a huge and exciting staircase that forces us to reinvent ourselves. To face those challenges, plenary session was a great moment to share ideas, market view, fruitful insights and goals. Key highlights included : ✅Opening Keynote by Michaël Trabbia: A strategic vision on the future of wholesale and infrastructure, addressing the exponential demand for connectivity. ✅Infrastructure Investments: François MOREAU de SAINT MARTIN and Pascale Labrecque from DigitalBridge emphasized the crucial importance of investments for the future. ✅Fiber Access: A discussion moderated by Bénédicte DAVID with Philippe Mansour, Xavier Pichon Marc Blanchet on the opportunities and challenges of fiber access. ✅CDN - A Large-Scale Opportunity: Emmanuel Rochas, Thomas Kohler, Bastien LIA, and Stefan Gustafsson discussed the importance of content distribution networks. 🏆The day concluded with the Wholesale Awards Ceremony, honoring innovative and impactful projects with Orange CEO Christel Heydemann, whom congratuled Winners : Best Infrastructure Project: Thibaud MARTIN ◾ Carrier Sales, Americas and Stephane SALIBA for the ASTRALE project. Best Innovative Project: Jamil Chawki, PhD and Benoit Fondeviole for the ODOS project. Best CSR Project: denis loustaunau for the "Carbon Calculator for Wholesale Customers." Best Value Creation Project: Pascale Boulard, PMP from Orange Belgium for transferring ex-Voo customers to the Orange network. There's a (slow) wave of consolidation in the European retail channel for consumer electronics. Very interesting news coming out of Italy today that Fnac Darty is offering to buy Unieuro S.p.A., and expand it's regional footprint further. For devices specifically, Italy has incredibly fierce competition in the channel between several large retailers (Unieuro S.p.A.., Euronics Italia S.p.A., MediaWorld ) and operators (Vodafone , TIM, wind tre, Illiad). These players are giving plenty of entry routes to vendors and providing options to consumers, but also makes it tricky to operate profitably in the long term. Are telco stores necessary, a necessary evil - or just evil? Nordic operators have very different number of stores. Less stores often signals a better sales capability online whereas more stores signals a more traditional approach. Telenor Norway, Elisa Finland and DNA Oyj Finland are the three Nordic operators with the highest number of brick-and-mortar stores compared to population. 3 Sverige Sweden, Tele2 Sweden and ice Norge Norway are the three operators with the lowest reliance on stores.
