More than 100 Junior Marine promotions have been temporarily delayed due to a computerized clerical error. This unexpected glitch caused a miscalculation in the points needed for troops to advance to the next rank. However, the United States Marine Corps has taken action by ordering a halt on promotions until the issue is resolved. The system update, which occurred on April 23, affected the Junior Enlisted Performance Evaluation System (JEPES) and resulted in the incorrect calculation of education points. These points play a crucial role in determining promotion eligibility for junior Marines. While most promotions are now back on track following the resolution of the initial system issue, certain promotions, including remedial promotions based on continuing education, are still affected. According to Captain Sarah Eason, a spokesperson for the Marine Corps' Manpower and Reserve Affairs, 113 Marines are currently unable to be promoted until their scores can be accurately assessed. However, promotions to corporal and sergeant have been authorized for all other eligible Marines. The Marine Corps is actively working to prevent similar mistakes in the future by implementing additional quality-assurance measures. The error has highlighted the significance of continuing education in the promotion process for junior Marines, as completing MarineNet courses earns them valuable JEPES points. Let's hope for a swift resolution to this issue so that these deserving Junior Marines can receive their well-earned promotions. #MarineCorps #Promotions #MilitaryNews #ContinuingEducation #CareerAdvancement

The government has announced a new $200 million training facility at HMAS Stirling in WA. The project aims to invest in attracting and training the next generation of Navy Submariners in the Australian Defence Force. The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines through the AUKUS partnership will require growing and training Australia’s future AUKUS workforce. This world-class facility will support the skilling of Australia’s submariner workforce, through local submarine crew training and certification for work on Virginia class submarines, which Australia will acquire and operate from the early 2030s. Construction of the training centre will support local jobs and the Western Australian economy, requiring a daily workforce of around 120 construction personnel, which will grow to around 180 personnel per day at peak times. Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Mark Hammond, AO, RAN highlighted Australia’s trailblazing in this area. "Our submariners are rightly regarded as some of the best in the world. The new Submarine Training Centre which is being built at HMAS Stirling will continue this proud tradition of highly skilled submariners well into the twenty-first century,” Mr Hammond said. "This is a step forward for the Royal Australian Navy to operating and maintaining our future fleet of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines." 📷 Courtesy Defence Australia #DefenceAustralia

The US Navy (#USN) has announced that it is set to deploy a torpedo-tube launch-and-recovery (TTL&R) uncrewed #underwatervehicle (#UUV) #capability onboard an #operational #submarine for the first time, with the operational deployment set to commence by the end of 2024. The deployment will take place in the European theatre of operations. While #submarines have deployed with UUVs in the past, the TTL&R option allows for ease of system deployment and retrieval, increasing capability, reach, and manoeuvre in the #undersea domain. Vice Admiral Robert Gaucher, the #USNavy ’s Commander, Submarine Forces | Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic, told the #Naval Leaders’ Combined Naval Event 2024 (CNE 24) conference in Farnborough, #UK in late May: “We’re going to install UUVs on a submarine, USS Delaware, starting in a couple of weeks, and they will deploy by the end of the year,” “We’re already looking at who’s going to be next to start installing, so that we continuously have a submarine-operated vehicle,” Vice Adm Gaucher added. Delaware is a Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN). Commissioned in April 2020, the Block III Virginia boat is the 18th of a planned force level of 66 Virginia hulls. Vice Adm Gaucher explained that delivering a fully integrated SSN-based UUV capability is a key #development priority, as part of building the USN submarine force’s future operational posture. “From my perspective, we are not operating UUVs enough in the submarine force,” he added. This capability development process will be accelerating in 2024, Vice Adm Gaucher said. Delaware’s #deployment will involve an HII #REMUS 600 UUV. This type of UUV was launched from the Delaware’s torpedo tube and was recovered the same way during a test in late 2023. #mai #marineacoustics #innovation #technology #forcemultiplier #underseawarfare #antisubmarinewarfare #sonar #acoustics US Navy Commander, Submarine Force Pacific #navy https://lnkd.in/eyS4Z_fr

I honestly wonder why the #DepartmentofDefense especially the #Navy doesn't have a pipeline with Trade Schools. There is no difference in my view if you are paying for an officers training at the Naval Academy, Nuclear, or Special Warfare Pipelines to paying the tuition of #Tradesmen and then becoming GS personnel. The sheer amount we rely on GS's already makes sense when its jobs that should not have high turnover. However, as we keep learning with every new inked contract, that company contracted turned over most of its contracted personnel from the las equivalent contract they did to increase profit margin.

Are there women Navy Nukes? Abso-freaking-lutely. YES! Women are Navy Nukes. They work side by side with their male counterparts. I was honored to serve on a submarine with female officers, part of the first operational boats to go out with women aboard. Since then, policies have expanded, especially in the submarine community. Women have long been a vital part of the Navy’s nuclear program on aircraft carriers, contributing as both enlisted personnel and officers. This is not a 100% male-dominated environment. The trades industry is increasingly seeing more women enter and succeed, and the Navy is producing incredible technical talent from both genders. Women are crushing it. 💥👩🔬 #WomenInSTEM #NavyNukes #Veterans #WomenInTheMilitary #NuclearPower #DiversityInTech #MilitaryTalent #Highr1

Australia’s $368bn nuclear-powered submarine project will be kickstarted with key deals to be inked in Adelaide. Defence Minister Richard Marles will sign a tripartite agreement to start preparatory work at Osborne Naval Shipyard, including recruiting workers and developing build program schedules setting the foundations for the project. “Construction of Australia’s first SSN-AUKUS submarine will commence in Australia by the end of this decade and the work to deliver this capability is already well underway. “This will be a whole-of-nation undertaking, one which will provide Australia with robust and resilient supply chains that enhance our national security.” State Defence and Space Industries Minister Stephen Mullighan said the number of skilled South Australian defence workers was set to skyrocket, creating “thousands of highly-skilled, highly-paid career opportunities in the coming years and decades”. BAE Systems Australia chief executive Craig Lockhart said the pathways program would boost existing schemes “to strengthen the pipeline of talent from schools into the workplace”. “Finding thousands of Australians with the right skills to deliver the SSN AUKUS fleet sits high on the list of formidable challenges that lie ahead for the nation’s next generation submarine program,” he said.
