Apples & trees—we are so proud of raising the next generation of educators. We have two amazing daughters. One who is already an educator & one on her way. Being a teacher is the single hardest job nobody respects. In spite of the lack of respect our daughters strive to raise the next generation of dreamers—because educators MAKE DREAMS! #education#educationalleadership#educators#eductionalequity#educatorsrising
Veteran teachers will tell you, there are more SEL challenges today than there have ever been before. @petergray has it right. We need more play to get over these challenges.
It needs to happen DURING the school day because the play gap is not happening after school. After-school time is sedentary. This is where our culture is and we need to meet our children where they are.
If we are truly going to educate children in a developmentally appropriate way, we must get them moving during school. Not just in recess and PE but in learning and classroom experiences.
Moving in class isn't time wasted it is time gained.

Here's the problem with this post. If Education is like a baseball game - then it seems to forget that baseball games need TEAMS to survive. And there is NO TEAM in education.
Tossing parents, students and teachers into the deep end and saying to them, "SWIM, SWIM" is not the same as forming a real team that works toward a common goal.
Ive worked in K12 education for the last 20 years. Ive visited hundreds of schools. I have talked to thousands of educators. And what I see across the country is a LACK OF TEAMWORK.
That's not the teachers fault. That's not the Principals fault. That's not the parents fault - and shame on you for blaming the students.
This is the GOVERNMENT'S FAULT - 100%.
The US Dept of Education's policy and agenda is ACTIVELY seeking to destroy our schools and prevent TEAMS from forming. So what say you Dept of Ed??

Recently I worked on an extended project with Substantial to predict what the future of math could look like when designed for Black, Latino/a, and low-income children.
Considering ALL stakeholders in the education ecosystem was major for our design process. We looked at the teaching & learning of math from multiple angles to try to get an understanding of the pain points, possible solutions, and the needed imaginations for a better math experience.
That life changing work (one of my best working experiences) shifted my gaze a few steps back from the student. I have to look at the big picture. The students, teachers, administrators, parents, siblings, government, non-profits, community members, etc. Everyone has a foot in how math education is shaped right in this moment. Which means we all play a role in how we take the next step forward to make equitable and fun teaching and learning experiences for our marginalized youth.

The article begins by exploring the transformative impact of the pandemic on the dynamics between parents, children, and schools, signaling a profound shift in attitudes and relationships within the educational landscape. This initial framing sets a comprehensive backdrop, underscoring the changes and challenges arising from COVID-19's widespread disruptions.
However, as the narrative unfolds, the focus shifts to the role of local authorities in facilitating connections between schools and families. This shift emphasises the importance of local government support mechanisms but somewhat diverges from a broader examination of evolving relationships in the post-pandemic era. This discrepancy is key to understanding the complexities of the post-pandemic educational landscape, highlighting the need for schools to build stronger relationships with parents and children.
In my experience, the pandemic greatly impacted the relationship between schools and parents. The usual communication channels weren't enough anymore. Parents were anxious, and children faced new stressors. We needed to find new ways to connect with families on a deeper level, often through personal outreach and direct communication. This more personal approach helped to rebuild trust and redefine our relationships with families.
During this period, I was struck by the resilience of our school teams, who, under the leadership of our governors and senior staff, had to make quick decisions with limited guidance from the government. It wasn't just about following rules—it was about creating a sense of community during a time of uncertainty.
The article discusses the role of local authorities, and while that's important, my experience showed that the strength to navigate these challenges comes from within the school and the connections we created and developed with our local communities and organisations. By focusing on these local relationships, we were able to create a more inclusive and responsive environment for our children and young people.
As we move forward, the key to building a successful school community is creating a sense of belonging and trust. It's about nurturing a culture where everyone feels valued, collaboration is encouraged, and support is freely given. This localised approach not only strengthens the school community but also creates a supportive environment where children can thrive.
In conclusion, while local authorities play a role in supporting schools, the real foundation for success lies in the relationships built within the school community. By focusing on these local connections, schools can create a resilient and adaptable environment that benefits everyone involved. This approach will ultimately help our children and families receive the education and support they need to succeed.
