I speak with a lot of technical founders. Some successful, some not. The successful ones share a simple habit. They schedule sales tasks in their calendars. Even if it’s just for a few hours, reaching out to a few leads, handful of conversations. Even when their day is hectic. Even if it feels like they're juggling too much. They're out there committed. Scheduling. Sticking to it. What are struggling founders doing? Take a stab... They know sales is key. Yet, they never put it into their schedule. They procrastinate. They delay. They're making excuses for why they "can't" find time for sales. The only way to grow your business is to talk to prospects and customers. The more you delay, the more you burn cash, the less you grow, the more likely you are to go out of business.

🛑 “We have to let our reps sell their own way.” is the worst approach you can have with your sales team. I’ve worked with dozens of companies and the ones that see consistent sales growth are the ones that find ways to sell that work, teach it to all their reps, and hold them accountable to do it that way. If you want to see growth every year, bring your best sales people into the home office 1-2x/year. Roleplay with you as the client. Map out everything they do (their process, verbiage, demeanor, more). Then, teach the rest of the sales team to sell in the same way. Suddenly, your ENTIRE sales team does things the same way as your best seller, and as a result your entire team will level-up. It’s not rocket science, but I would say 90% of companies don’t do it that way. The ones that do are absolutely fantastic at sales (and retention). Will you lose people because they don’t want to be told what to do? Yes. Will your company’s sales increase greatly, and you’ll be able to replace those folks with reps who will do things the successful way? here's a sales/life strategy that has had a 100% success rate for me. if you're based or visiting an area where your network/prospect is based, make a coffee session happen!! i'm fortunate enough to work remote, and the FIRST thing I do before calls is check out where the person is from ahead of the call. I keep a mental note of that, and then whenever I'm in their neck-of-the-woods for a wedding/work trip/whatever I'll attempt to connect in person. so so so much fun. I always clarify "NO PITCH". It's great to just network and learn. Oftentimes it's with business founders or execs, so there is always a TON to learn from them. win win That's why it's a 100% success rate. It's not about winning the deal. It's about winning at life. I've made tons of awesome friends and connections from this method!!! giiiiive it a shot!
