Something you didn’t know about #Taiwan: the secret to their Chip/computing power. 💻🇹🇼 Stroll around Taiwan, and chances are you will come across these “Guāi Guāi” packages. In fact, you will find them not only in stores, but on top of all sorts of machines, from cashiers to ATMs to bank computers. 🏧💳 Why? Welcome to the “secret” 🤫 to Taiwan’s computing power. “Guāi guāi” is a children’s snack, and the name can loosely be translated as “behave behave” (having a daughter here, I can confirm you hear this all the time). So when you want any electronic machine to work well, you just place a package on top! The legend I heard is that some graduate student’s computer was on the fritz, and he saw this snack with an odd name, so he placed it on top of the hard drive, after which the computer started working. There are other origin stories too. The fact is that no one knows exactly how/where this started. The result, however, is that you find this on top of all sorts of electronics throughout Taiwan. Do you have anything similar in your country? Any country-specific talisman or good luck charm? 🍀
