Caught up with Suzy Goulding, Head of Sustainability at MSL, APMEA during her India visit. She leads strategy development and steers sustainability efforts for MSL clients. She is on a mission to help clients make sustainable changes with conviction, and communicate their actions in a way that is honest, transparent, and credible. She was in India for talks in Bengaluru and Delhi apart from key note address at Praxis 2023, a PR and corporate communications summit held in Chennai. She spoke on "Greenwashing: The Risks and Opportunities of Communicating Sustainability" at Praxis. In a thought provoking presentation, Suzy emphasized the importance of intent when it comes to sustainability endeavors. She reminded us that not every action requires a amplification, advocating for a more discerning approach. She also highlighted the perils of greenwashing, describing it as the practice of making misleading or unsubstantiated claims about the environmental benefits of a product or service. "Greenwashing can tarnish a company's reputation, erode consumer trust, with serious business repercussions," Suzy cautioned. Honesty emerged as a recurring theme in Suzy's address, especially in the context of setting sustainability goals. She acknowledged that sustainability remains a relatively new terrain for many organizations and urged them to approach it with integrity. Suzy drew a clear line between ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and sustainability, underscoring the importance of distinguishing these terms accurately. Suzy commended the law in India mandating that companies allocate 2% of their expenditure to corporate social responsibility (CSR). She also shared her perspectives on Apple's new sustainability film and found inspiration in Patagonia's remarkable journey. We also discussed the crucial role of the media in reporting sustainability matters. She stressed the significance of accurate and responsible journalism in shaping public perceptions. #sustainability #greenwashing #csr #esg #praxis2023 MSL (Global) | MSLGROUP India

Flashback to a Key Interview: Warren East, CEO of ARM, on the company's Mobile Future (2008) We discussed ARM's dominance in mobile processors. He mentioned that ARM was in about 90% of the world's phones. Interestingly, during the conversation, he also welcomed Intel's push into the handset space, saying it would 'spur competition.' Fast-forward to today, and we see how that competition shapes the mobile industry. East's predictions about improved browsing experiences and phone speech translation were spot on. A true visionary who saw the potential in mobile tech long before it became ubiquitous! Warren East's Career: He worked with Texas Instruments for 11 years before joining ARM in 1994 and becoming CEO in 2001. He quit in 2013 and joined Rolls Royce as CEO, leading the company through a turbulent period involving the impact of COVID-19. Question to my Semicon network: What will be the next big leap in mobile processor technology? Meeting on May 7, 2008 in Bangalore Interview Link: https://lnkd.in/gsgUrEsW #flashbackfriday #journalismjourney #mobileprocessor #semiconductor Arm | Dataquest

Interesting observation by one of the tech stalwarts, only enterprises who are actually using Copilot can throw some light on the efficacy of the tool and their observations about its productivity gains, if any.

Submerged Silicon Valley of India? It took me 2 hours to cover a distance of 20 km yesterday while returning from the office. The same Old Reason = Incessant Rains = Waterlogging = Traffic Chaos. The local government was forced to issue an advisory to work from home today. How can we even dream of a Viksit Bharat when our cities still struggle with basic civic infrastructure problems like poor roads, inadequate drainage, and traffic chaos? #civicmess #urbanchaos #infrastructurefail #roadsinruin #cityincrisis

I kept thinking about this all of last week. Was it appropriate for brands to proceed with a mega advertising blitz on October 10th launching their new products, given that the entire country was mourning Mr. Ratan Tata? Could they have postponed their campaigns, even though the advertising spaces were already booked in all the newspapers? I also noticed business-as-usual posts on many corporate LinkedIn handles (probably posts were scheduled), which could have been put off by a day. #respectandmourning #corporateresponsibility #businessasusual #mourningperiod #thoughtfulmarketing #respectinadvertising #corporatesensitivity Pops KV Sridhar | Sam Balsara | The Advertising Standards Council of India

This is an excellent summary of Ratan Tata's life and times. He contributed $100 million to his alma mater, Cornell University, where he pursued a B Arch (Class of 1962). In 2008, a $50 million gift from the Tata Trusts created the Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition, a long-term research initiative. It endowed the Tata Scholarship for Students from India. In 2017, a $50 million investment from Tata Consultancy Services helped build the Tata Innovation Center on Cornell Tech’s Roosevelt Island campus in New York City. via Cornell University
