"Surround yourself with people who are only going to lift you higher". Networking is so important, especially if you want to be good at stakeholder management. I like to surround myself with people I can learn from. Whether it be project management skills (as someone always has a different approach or tool that's really useful), or an IT skill for my toolbox. Recently I've discovered a truly incredible networking support group that's available for all female project managers, or those starting their journey. Janine, why do you only host events for women? That's not good practice, inclusive or good for business surely? I'm often asked and spoken to about why I founded the Female Business Network, and host networking and events exclusively for women. Sometimes even criticised for it. For me, its about finding my community, my niche and people I want to be able to work with and support. We're always told to niche, niche and niche further... and this is what I've done. For me, women in business can find it difficult to be confident talking about our businesses, we're often still the main parent who is called/ expected to drop everything if school calls, children are sick and during school holidays. As women we also have added 'extras' such as our cycle, peri-menopause, external responsibilities that can impact us and how we work. And all these areas are talked about, understood and worked around within my communities. Members feel able and safe to speak about things outside of business, and this is what helps to make my communities special places for us. We're not just there for business growth, we're there for personal growth too. 🥰 So, with FBN I'll be staying true to what I really want to do - building communities of amazing women who can feel comfortable sharing ideas and worries, letting off steam, celebrating wins and growing their businesses in ways that work for them - with people that really understand, and 'get' what that means. That's me being open and honest today, please be kind if you have a differing view.... 🙏
