This week we will see the publication of the General Election manifestos for the main political parties. We can expect reform of the planning system to feature in all of them as it continues to be seen as the vehicle through which other policy outcomes can be achieved. Those of us involved in the planning world will be keen to understand the potential for change under the next Government. It would be surprising if all the proposals from any one party were welcomed without question but it is easy to mark someone else's homework and we should remember that these proposals begin in a good place: a genuine desire to make things better. Over the weekend I started to think about the top ten changes to the planning system that I would most like to see. There is scope to be more ambitious but the scale of the challenges that we face in relation to the economy, housing and climate require immediate action and that means focusing on a set of proposals with limited legislative change and potentially big impact. Here are my suggestions. What would you do? #GeneralElection #Manifesto #PlanningReform

Following the announcement of a General Election on 4 July 2024, Paul Rose, CEO of OFTEC and Ken Cronin, CEO of UKIFDA commented: “As the general election campaign begins, the parties and their candidates standing across the UK’s rural seats must look to the issues that truly matter to rural voters and the challenges they face. This includes how rural communities will heat their homes and how government can give them choice about how best to decarbonise their home heating." Read more here https://lnkd.in/e-dkjfrB
