🌍 The terms "carbon neutral" and "net zero" are often used in discussions about climate change, but they refer to different approaches to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Carbon neutrality involves balancing the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted with equivalent offsets, such as investing in carbon sinks. It generally focuses on offsetting residual emissions, including some avoidance activities, and does not always require full accounting of all emissions. Since joining the Climate Active program in 2018, we have reduced greenhouse gas emissions associated with our operations by over 60% and offset the rest with Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) generated by our independent carbon projects to achieve carbon neutrality. For CY2022, ACCUs were generated by the Carbon Estate: Creating a Better Climate (Stage 2) project in NSW. The transport sector is responsible for 21% of global CO₂ emissions, and has the highest reliance on fossil fuels over any other industry. In order to meet climate targets, emissions from transportation must fall by over 3% per year until 2030.
