Does it matter what you call your cleaning team? “Cleaners” or “Cleaning Technicians” ? 🤔 💯 the job title you give your team makes a big difference. Using a title like cleaning technician or Cleaning Specialist shows respect for their skills and expertise and they feel more valued. From my own experience, leaving behind the cleaner label bumps up your employee retention and their motivation. 💪 Let’s be honest - they’re not just pushing a mop are they?! They’re trained professionals who keep spaces clean, safe, and risk free 💪 Plus I swear clients see them in a more respectful way, as experts, when you refer to them hygiene specialists …. I’ve never used terms like “my ladies”, or “my cleaners “ not just because my team were both M/F but it can sound bloody patronising if you do! It undermines them as professionals and it’s not particularly gender friendly either! What do you call your cleaning team? ⬇️⬇️

Safety Food for Thought Two days ago, some contractors who came for a specific job on site brought in the below cylinders filled with gas for hot work, at the close of work I discovered they left the cylinders laying flat on the ground, I checked and discovered it still had gas in them, I erected all three with someone's help. The following day the contractors resumed and I had a discussion with them as regards the placement and arrangement of the cylinders, the team lead argued and said he did it for safety purposes, locked the cylinders head and to avoid it falling on anything. I replied and told him the proper way to store it as seen below. The following day, upon getting to the site, I discovered the Contractor had requested and brought a trolley with a chain to secure it properly in an open area of the building. Moral of the Safety Moment As a safety personnel always be up to date with safety practices and laws, these workers/contractors on site know the right thing to do but deliberately try to weigh the attitude and knowledge of the safety man before doing it. #hse #safety #siteworkers.

Can a microbiologist become a quality control survey inspector?

A worker in the laundry of a resort died after drinking fluorosilicic acid solution that was stored in a 16oz water bottle. The bottle had no additional labeling and had been left out in a common area by another worker. This example illustrates the very real dangers that chemicals pose to workers, other personnel and, potentially, the public. One of the biggest risks associated with the use of hazardous chemical products, is making sure everyone on site knows exactly what chemicals they are using and where they are. This tragic example of a staff member who accidently ingested fluorosilicic acid solution may have been prevented if the correct labelling and storage procedures for the chemical were followed. What defines safety for this workspace is undergoing regular training in the form of safety workshops, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
