India primarily has a reactive healthcare system, where people believe it is wiser not to prepay for services they 'might not end up using/useful'. Many of us in India fail to grasp the significance of preventing chronic diseases and premature death and how it can potentially impact generations. It is particularly important during our prime & productive years between 30-60 when we have numerous unfulfilled responsibilities on our shoulders. It doesn't matter if you are wealthy or poor. It becomes more about others than you. Did you know, that heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in India, accounting for almost 18% of all female deaths, and contributes to around 25% of all deaths in the country? Prevention is any day better than seeking a cure.

Is #India the new "Cancer Capital of the World"? I came across a new study that has unveiled an alarming picture of declining overall health in India. Not only is there a sharp rise in the number of cancer cases, but their average age of incidence has gotten significantly younger. 👉Also, one in three Indians is pre-diabetic, two in three are pre-hypertensive, and one in 10 struggles with depression. Are we looking at a potential #healthcare crisis? 🔹 This emphasises the importance of regular health screenings and prioritising #investments in health infrastructure. Also, healthcare access and quality shouldn't be limited to tier 1 cities. 📍The need to #educate the public and create individualised preventive healthcare solutions has never been greater. From here, we need to promote policies that incentivize healthy food choices, increase physical activity opportunities, and address mental health concerns. This is crucial to ensuring a healthier #future for all Indians. #IndiaHealth #PreventiveHealthcare #CancerAwareness #HealthyIndia

World #Hypertension Day Theme 2024: 'Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer!' Access to health-care facilities, particularly in rural areas, remains a significant challenge. A significant portion of the Indian population lives in remote and underserved areas, making #access to quality #healthcare services difficult. Based on the National Family Health Survey-4 (#NFHS-4), about 63.2% of Indians had their blood pressure checked before, and just 21.5% knew they had #highbloodpressure. The lack of accessibility to healthcare facilities, particularly in #rural areas leads to delayed or inadequate hypertension diagnosis and treatment. As a result, the Government of India has implemented Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres (AB-#HWCs) at the primary level, with the goal of screening for common Noncommunicable diseases such as hypertension. #oldphoto #Hypertension #bloodpressure #control #healthcare #community

Viksit Bharat Saksham Bharat: Reaching the Last Person in the Queue"In the journey towards a developed and empowered India, the principle of inclusivity stands paramount. "Viksit Bharat Saksham Bharat" underscores the imperative to ensure that the dividends of development reach the last person in the queue. This vision acknowledges that progress is meaningful only when it is holistic and benefits every segment of the population. In the health sector, this philosophy becomes especially critical. The traditional division of disease patterns into rural and urban categories is increasingly blurred. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), once thought to be concerns predominantly of urban areas, are now making significant inroads into rural populations as well. Conditions such as heart diseases, diabetes, and hypertension are becoming common across the board, underscoring the need for a unified health strategy that addresses the needs of both rural and urban India.

It was such a delight to watch Ms Sudha Murthy speak about matters that directly impact people. Policy making in areas like Community Health, Education, Employment and Environment needs vanguards like her, who have tackled the problems on ground, side by side with the masses... You'd be surprised to know that nearly 2 in 3 cervical cancer patients in India die annually due to late detection. As Ms Murthy rightly said, "If a woman dies, a man can get another wife, but a child can never get another mother". With vaccines and medication available in Western nations for decades, and the problem staring us in the face, there's no reason why the Indian public should be denied these treatements, except for reasons that undermine true public service, like meaningless politics. I know, its easier said than done. But having seen the state of affairs in the space of blindness, and how many of the conditions that I see on a daily basis are needless, it deeply bothers me that the Indian inguinity that shows up in startups and innovation so greatly, is still struggling to get these aids to the patients' bedsides. And while we are doing what we can in our capacities, its important that policy makers accelerate the process. And we can play our parts by choosing them wisely! #Doctors #Diseaseeradication #Healthcarepolicy #Healthcare #Eyecare
