Women in Construction in Ireland (WICI), founded this year by Joanne White, is an independent Irish consultancy organisation that promotes gender equality in the construction industry. As discussed in BHA's March newsletter, more and more women are entering the construction industry's workforce. This means that it is imperative that those in the industry ensure that their environments have the capabilities to support women joining their team. WICI provides help and advice to any constructions businesses struggling to adequately support women. These supports include: -Hiring suitable candidates -Struggle to retain female staff -Adapting facilities to suit female staff -Offering guidance for female staff -Career progression opportunities By addressing these areas, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in construction, ensuring that our industry thrives with diverse talent. This will help to reduce skills gaps and create a more gender-equal work force. On Tuesday 17th September 2024, the Inspiring Women in Construction & Engineering Conference brings together women and allies to a half day conference, ahead of the Women in Construction Awards in the evening. With a continued focus on encouraging the development of women within the sector the aim is not only to help women make career progress, but also to encourage more organisations to promote gender equality across the wide variety of roles in construction and engineering. https://lnkd.in/e-KS9N3n

Chandolin Construction was previously featured in the news for our ongoing efforts to support and empower women in the construction industry. This feature highlighted the important role women play in shaping the future of construction, and we’re proud to have had our Managing Director, Sarah Dimitrievski, share her insights on how diversity leads to innovation and success. As part of our commitment to advancing gender equality in the industry, we worked with the University of New South Wales. Together, we’re creating more opportunities for women to enter and thrive in the construction sector. This collaboration has provided education, mentorship, and hands-on experience, helping to break down barriers and build a stronger, more inclusive industry.

Working #ForPlanet: In 2023, we implemented over 100 income-generating projects for small-scale farmers, with 64% led by women. This initiative boosts economic resilience, promotes gender equality, and fosters sustainable agriculture in areas vulnerable to sea level rise.🌱

In 2024-25, the Women’s Grants for a Stronger Future program will support initiatives that align with the priority areas of Stronger Together: WA's Plan for Gender Equality (Stronger Together). The priority areas are health and well-being, safety and justice, women's economic independence and women in leadership. #strongertogether

The construction industry in the UK has long been seen as a male-dominated sector.
