Amrit Acharya, Srinath Ramakkrushnan, Rahul Sharma, Vishal Chaudhary, and Ankit Fatehpuria’s Bengaluru-based ZETWERK did Rs 11,449 crore ($1.4 billion) in operating revenue in 2022-23, barely five years after they founded it. That figure was 131% higher than in the year before, which in turn was nearly 500% higher than in the year before that. If that pace continued into the last fiscal, they might have ended the year at over $2 billion. #Zetwerk connects suppliers of industrial products with those who need them, the likes of L&T, Tata Steel, Jindal, BHEL, Indian Oil, and GE (General Electric). There are other similar platforms that are older than Zetwerk, but Zetwerk does not just connect, it in addition uses technology and human intervention to ensure suppliers meet the required quality standards, and even more importantly, that they deliver the products absolutely on time. Lack of timely delivery has been the bane of Indian industry. Our lead story on #TimesTechies on April 5 looks at Zetwerk’s incredible progress, and the technologies behind it. The US today accounts for 25% of Zetwerk’s revenue. Their success is now encouraging them to establish their own factories in an area where India is heavily dependent on imports – consumer electronics. They are even looking at factories in the US. Rahul Agarwal Sharad Kohli writes on Ashok Hariharan and Vineet Jawa’s IDfy, which helps organisations deal with the issue of identity faking that is rampant across India. The most common instance is of people faking their resumes. IDfy uses technology, including AI, and connects to a slew of government databases to verify the credentials of job seekers, merchants, and others, for a host of enterprises in India. Ramprasad Chinthekindi, software engineer at #Meta, writes for our Patent Pathfinders column. Ramprasad has filed 28 patents, and 25 of them have been approved, all of them in the cloud computing and data deduplication space. He says in any innovation journey, it is important to embrace failure as a necessary part of the process. Rema Ravindran, general manager at the India Engineering Centre of Pratt & Whitney, writes for our `Career Ladder for Women’ column. She says it’s important to staying focused on your purpose, it’s important to talk to the people who believe in you when you are in doubt. She says she leaned heavily on her spouse for an equitable share of responsibilities at home. Rudramuni B, who previously led Dell's R&D in Bengaluru, and who is now an associate partner in a VC firm, responds to our lead story the week before on how to sustain the momentum of GCCs.
