𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 – 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐭 & 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧
"A vast, flat area without buildings, roads, woods, tree lines and hedgerows, naturally provides a perfect area for observation and assessment by the team; conversely, it also provides little or no cover from gunfire. Walking distances between the team and Boss are, with the exception of the Boss’ wishes and the team not wishing to invade his privacy, not necessarily affected by anything else. However, team members pushing out further across this open ground will increase observations, increase awareness to anything untoward and, with good communications, will substantially increase the time to react. This should be conducted by at least 2 team members, (in consideration to a 5-man team), 1 at each flank in advance of the VIP Group. The distance between both these members on point and the Group is maintained through identifying the correct balance between increasing observations and sustaining effective reaction to attack. Introduce an undulating terrain with ‘dead ground’ and it remains imperative that this distance is dictated by the ground itself. The crux of this hypothetical team movement across open ground is one of ‘reactive flexibility’."
