Summit School’s high school students enjoyed a fun and meaningful experience this week when they visited John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. and toured the Fisher Nuts store and plant. Jeffrey Sanfilippo, Kelly Day, and Maria Avina welcomed our students and hosted a presentation about JBSS before the tour. This summer marks the beginning of our 7th year partnering with JBSS. Each year, 2-3 Summit seniors have worked within the corporate office and the Fisher Nuts store, building important work skills, social skills, and self-confidence. Even during the COVID pandemic, the JBSS team found creative ways to continue supporting our students’ growth. We are all so grateful for the genuine and caring JBSS team members who have, and continue to, help us build confident and capable members of their communities. We thank you for believing in Summit School and can’t wait for what year 7 brings! John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. Kelly Day

The boundaries between segments hold tremendous potential, especially for both academic and CTE dual enrollment. Allowing this to be managed and tracked at the level of students and families, and schools and colleges is critical. However, without adequate software or personal technology these type of strategic and accessible dual enrollment options and pathways are only available to a tiny fraction of the school population and have to managed with adequate human resourcing, which is difficult in budget constrained times.
As I reflect on the wild ride that is ASU-GSV, I'm energized by the fact that "skills," "pathways," and "degrees" were mentioned together throughout the summit. To me, that signals that there is a growing commitment to delivering real value for students via strong pathways from education to career. We know that dual enrollment is often an important component of those pathways—that's why I'm excited to share our team's new learning deck. Check it out to learn about the history of dual enrollment, our hypothesis about what great dual enrollment programs look like, and the levers we have to make all dual enrollment programs great ones. Shoutout to Career Ladders Project, the Community College Research Center, and the Public Policy Institute of California for their partnership—as well as Bill Tucker and Sylvia Symonds, Ph.D. for their synthesis. https://lnkd.in/ddRxupij

🌟After participating in last week’s ASU+GSV Summit with our alumna Ayana Dunlap, PMP, Steve Taylor, D.B.A., from Stand Together Trust, and Ken Ruggiero, from Ascent Funding, these are the three big ideas that stood out to accelerate the movement to find new and better pathways for learners: ✅ People need access to college alternatives and innovative funding options to gain the skills to pursue purposeful work. ✅ Employers need to recognize non-college credentials and hire based on skills, aptitudes, and motivation, not degrees. ✅ Policymakers can unleash human potential by reforming the workforce system to motivate people to contribute through purposeful work. 👉 To learn more about these key takeaways, take a look at this ASU GSV article! https://bit.ly/3w3MZyr

Ever hear “Bring Home Ec back” or “every child should take Home Ec like we used to”?? Well… the good news is – that it doesn’t need to be brought back as it has not gone away but has progressed over the past 100 years to continue to meet the needs of each generation and is now titled Family and Consumer Sciences(FCS). And, YES– every single student should be required to take FCS to be empowered with skillsets not only for career success but life success. To find out more about the power and possibility of FCS, I am excited to share a new resource that highlights the overview of FCS and how FCS continues today to prepare students for relevant and vitally important career clusters taught by educated and professional FCS educators. I hope you enjoy this article and help spread the word to those who comment that we need to “bring Home Ec back” that it is available across the country and if your child’s school does not offer it, advocate for them to add it and if FCS is offered in your child’s school make sure to get your child(ren) enrolled in FCS! The Alliance for Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS)released “Family and Consumer Sciences: Overview of a 100-year-old Industry Sector.” This foundational document showcases FCS's essential contributions to preparing individuals for diverse and meaningful careers. Spanning sectors such as education, hospitality, interior and fashion design and construction, and community services, it highlights how FCS supports both students and professionals in achieving career and life success. Supported by Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America®, Inc. (FCCLA®), the document reinforces the Alliance's commitment to elevating the global profile of FCS as a critical career cluster. FCCLA plays a pivotal role in integrating FCS principles into real-world applications, ensuring students gain practical workforce development and employment experience alongside their education. Through hands-on learning in FCS classes, FCCLA empowers nearly 245,000 students nationwide to develop leadership, career readiness, and essential workforce skills. By fostering these critical competencies, FCCLA and FCS education are shaping the next generation of leaders, ensuring students are prepared to make impactful contributions to their families, careers, and communities. Download the full document to learn more about how FCS is driving the future of workforce and leadership development. https://lnkd.in/e6e8Z_Ud #FCCLA #FamilyAndConsumerSciences #CareerDevelopment #Leadership #WorkforceDevelopment #Education #FutureLeaders #CTE

🔥 Igniting Change: Uniting Missouri and Arkansas for Impact! 🔥 From the heart of Missouri to the vibrant communities of Arkansas, we're embarking on a journey to ignite change and build a brighter future together! Just yesterday, we unveiled our latest marketing efforts for the upcoming YAW events in both Missouri and Arkansas, and the response has been phenomenal. As a Hispanic woman business owner and one of the 100 entrepreneurs making waves, I am profoundly moved by the support pouring in. In Missouri, the excitement is palpable as we rally behind our cause, with guest speakers ready to lend their voices and efforts underway to secure the perfect venue. Change is happening because we believe in the power of collaboration and the dream of empowerment. Meanwhile, in Arkansas, anticipation grows as we work to connect with all those who share our vision. Although we haven't reached everyone yet, we are confident that together, we can create a brighter future. With guest speakers on standby and efforts underway to secure the ideal venue, the momentum is building. Let's bridge the gap between Missouri and Arkansas, harnessing the spirit of collaboration to ignite change that will reverberate throughout both states. Together, we're building a force for impact that cannot be ignored. Change starts with a dream, and together, we're making it happen in Missouri and Arkansas.
