One of the biggest challenges in attracting candidates from private practice (especially U.S. firms) to in-house positions is the salary. It's understandable, as no one wants to take a ~30-40% pay cut. However, candidates should consider that over the long term (excluding equity), in-house salaries often equalize with, and sometimes surpass those of law firms -after a few promotions-. My advice to anyone hesitant about moving in-house is to consider the immediate benefits; work/life balance and greater flexibility, while also keeping the long-term potential in mind.
