Aera Energy is planning to inject 1.6 Mt CO2 per year at the Belridge oil field located in the San Joaquin Valley (40 miles west of Bakersfield, CA). The CCS project is called Project Frontier and is planned to be operational by the end of 2030. Link: https://lnkd.in/g2mrpdJy Belridge is one of the largest oil fields in the US with most of the oil production from two shallow zones: the Tulare Formation (Pleistocene) and Diatomites (Plio-Miocene). The field is a southeast plunging anticline and the hydrocarbon zones were likely sourced from the underlying Monterey Formation. This field has incredibly high well densities - with especially old wells from the initial discovery of the field in 1911. I am curious to see how legacy wells will be handled as the project moves forward.
