✨Short, Sweet, Silly!✨SAG-E Voice Actor, Voice Director, Casting Director, Singer, Writer, Researcher, DEIA & Social Justice Advocate | contact@jonnalynnalonso.com
I know what it’s like to be an actor behind the glass (or screen). A certain level of vulnerability is essential to getting the best performances. That can take a lot out of an actor. For intense scenes especially, both loud & quiet ones, I always prioritize checking in to ensure actors are physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually well. We have to recognize the human factor. We can’t go 0 to 60 instantly and sustain it for prolonged periods of time without rest. That’s why giving them enough time, space, and context to really understand and embody the character in order to limit extraneous takes is critical. Guiding them takes more than just direction; it requires taking care of them, too. Human to human. — Message me if you’re interested in working 1-on-1 on all things #ADR and #dubbing! #voiceover #voiceactor

20+ yrs as a top Japanese Voice Over Artist | Voquent's top 40 nominees in 2020 | Trusted voice for global brands | Casting Director
🙄Why Your Voice Might Not Be Selected Recently, during a commercial recording session, we captured several versions. The client was torn, and the director asked for my opinion on which take stood out. On another occasion, I was involved in a project where I helped cast voice actors. The director tasked me with narrowing down the candidates to three or four, as too many options could overwhelm the client. As voice actors, we're typically on the “chosen” side, but stepping into the role of the “chooser” was an eye-opening experience. It gave me a fresh perspective: making a choice requires a clear reason for that choice. When you're the one being chosen, you might not think about why you were picked. But when you're the one choosing, you must articulate why a particular voice or performance is compelling. This means that as voice actors, we need to be deeply grounded in our craft. Voice actors, can you explain why your voice gets chosen? #voiceactor #Japanesevoiceover #casting #voiceoverartist #dubbing #director

A production will never accomplish 100% of a director’s goals, which is why many directors return to the same play repeatedly. Paradoxically, as the director is evaluating and polishing the production during previews, they should also be weaning themselves from it. Some directors find letting go to be particularly difficult, insisting on controlling every detail of a performance. This can only frustrate actors, who must now be empowered to take command. A balance must be struck between conserving a production’s integrity and supporting the actors’ efforts to amplify their performances. A basic precept of acting is that performances have to be slightly different each night. Expecting actors to be present at every moment also means allowing the freedom to embrace the small changes in performance that are bound to occur each night. A director who objects to this type of variation will find few performances satisfactory. Thinking Like A Director by Michael Bloom
