Our Community Partner Awards are back for 2024 and the nomination period starts on Tuesday, July 30! We look forward to rewarding more deserving organizations in 2024 and we’re proud to highlight the impact of our 2023 $10,000 "Creating Possibility" award recipient: The Credit Coalition of Houston, TX. The Credit Coalition provides free financial and homebuyer counseling and education resources to the Houston community, impacting 600-800 clients per year on average. To date in 2024, they've hosted seven, six-week sessions of financial education classes, both virtually and in-person, as well as one class being offered in Spanish. Before year end, The Credit Coalition will host five more sessions. We are excited to support their efforts to financially educate and equip their community! "I teach people how to build systems to manage their money. The systems are always personalized, but the common themes are that we try to work with our money psychology rather than against it, and we try to automate as much of our systems as possible such that we know we’re doing everything right to live for today and the future." Cool to see this article this morning highlighting On Tap Credit Union's Financial Education Program that I run, and about my story of finding On Tap - a local, community-oriented #creditunion that wants to give back to members with REAL financial help - teaching to fish rather than giving a fish! https://lnkd.in/gAmKvC-e #financialeducation #cudifference #moneymanagement

Key to success for the next generation
Strong financial literacy and practical financial skills can give young people the tools they need to build the life that they want. It’s why, from our Money Sense Conference to our financial literacy workshop series, we have connected high school students with resources for learning how money works, and how to make money work for them. Today, we thank the Government of Ontario for joining us in supporting the success of Ontario’s young people by including a new financial literacy assessment requirement in their modernized Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Ensuring high school students know how to manage a household budget, save for a home, invest wisely and protect themselves from financial fraud before they leave high school will help prepare them for a bright future. https://lnkd.in/d5Ku_Fhz

How To Properly Use Credit 💳💵 I recently had the opportunity to speak to the National Youth Leaders here in Houston about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and philanthropy. While spending time with them, I wanted to break down the myth that a lot them as well as a lot of people in general (including myself) had about credit cards. A lot of our relatives told us growing up that we should avoid credit cards like the plague. Which if you don’t know how to use them properly is true. Fortunately, I was able to share with them my experience by following this myth, what I learned from it, and encouraged them to start their credit journey sooner rather than later by discussing the benefits of credit cards and how to use them properly 🙏🏽 For anyone else who still holds this myth true, I hope this blesses you! If you’d like to book me for your next event, click the link in the bio and let’s work 🤝🏽 #publicspeaking #publicspeaker #credit #creditcard #credittips #financialliteracy #financialeducation #personalfinance #financetips

As of summer 2024, there are currently 26 states that guarantee a personal finance course in high school. 👏 This shows that policymakers, educators, and parents are increasingly recognizing the importance of financial education and continue to advocate for students to learn these skills in school. As part of EVERFI’s mission to prepare students for their financial future, we are committed to scaling financial education in a way that meets the unique needs of teachers and schools no matter where they are. To reflect our commitment, we're launching a new Collection of our financial literacy courses so teachers, schools, and districts can easily review how these courses address relevant standards with a downloadable guide. As part of that, we've recently revamped our EVERFI: Financial Literacy for High School course to more comprehensively meet national and state financial education standards. Discover how sponsorship of this course can help scale your financial literacy efforts ➡️ https://blkb.co/469iepo

Financial Education needs to happen BEFORE young adults / school leavers are preparing to enter the workforce. For some this starts at home, but it isn’t enough to support young workers to navigate a financially stable future. The more this issue is addressed and given this kind of spotlight the brighter the future will be for generations below us. 💪🏻💪🏻 #letstalkaboutit
