4 years of tackling trash-filled rivers... And last week, all of our Sungai Watch River Warriors got to finally enjoy a clean river 🚣♀️💦
This is the type of river we are fighting for—because clean rivers bring life, joy, and hope.
Sea turtles often struggle because of things we do. 🏭🗑️ It's like they believe they can't win against us. But what if we change the game? 🌊🐢 Let's knock down those beliefs and help them thrive. By protecting their nesting shorelines and cleaning up our act, we can do wonders! 💪
Wanna help these shelled surfers out? 🐢 Share this post, spread the word, and let's make waves together! 🌊

As we continue to destroy our remaining forests, mangroves,we must remember that once these trees/mangroves are gone,we are gone. The fate of humankind is intricately tied to the fate of our forests/mangroves. Let's take action now to protect our remaining mangroves/forest.
Think Like a Watershed, Act like a River with Joaquin Murrieta Saldivar
USGS Presentations
After around 150 years of Powell’s watershed map, we are getting there….. Think like watershed with interdependence and connectivity of the uplands-middle lands and lowlands and act like a river being the connector of these interactions from the top to the bottom and vice versa. In this presentation we are going to explore some lessons learned of three bi-national watersheds shared between Mexico and USA. With the Kwapa Community in the Colorado River Delta, we developed community mapping strategies to elevate the role of the Kwapa in river restoration-cultural knowledge, management, and policy, thanks to this process the Kwapa continue to be an important presence in restoration initiative of the Colorado River Delta. By finding common ground with the ranching community of the Santa Cruz and San Pedro Rivers we are expanding best management practices for river restoration and range management with community benefits as well as binational watershed health. In Tucson, AZ within the Santa Cruz River basin with Watershed Management Group team, we are developing and implementing a 50 year vision for the restoration of the urban Santa Cruz with a multiple collaboration of a variety of stakeholders. These three cases provide insights of the importance of community based river restoration for rural and urban environments.

A falling tide is my favorite tide to fish for several reasons.
#1 The water that drains out of the marsh is typically cleaner than in the main channel.
#2 The water forces the baitfish out of the grass and flats, and into deeper water for the predator fish to feed on.
#3 When combined with a north wind after a cold front, a falling tide becomes supercharged providing maximum water movement.
But on my latest trip to Lake Pontchartrain, I learned to appreciate a rising tide after understanding its effects on the water and baitfish on that specific day.

TREECATION!! (Tree work + Vacation)
This week, the Arbor Society addressed a stand of pine which had been afflicted by a pine borer. Our client lost about twenty trees due to this devastating pest.
The bigger concern are the remaining trees left around this particular reservoir succumbing to the same fate. This community stands to lose all their pine if actions aren’t taken. We dropped info packets that includes direct information for the DIY’ers in the community since it’s very easy to protect, awareness is the key here.
Our client hadn’t been to their cabin in roughly six months, they found half their trees had become unhealthy. With the hazards removed, we can now focus on saving the remaining stand and try to get the word out on how to protect against pine borers.
If you have concerns about the health of your trees, give us a shout!
Here’s a video of the fun we had along the way, not pictures are the trout we caught and the waterfalls we visited!

The Rain We Keep 🤠
Our elders see the slow death of our communities. They’ve watched the land dry out, many played a role in its depletion. Some got rich. Many are desparate & many seek penance.
Our parents fear for the future. Our kids live in a drying landscape, its immense natural wealth depleted - and in a warming world.
Want a job? You have a few options:
the oilfield (record profits!)
chemag & industrial beef
the military
oh & the prisons are hiring
Our desperation is so great because we've been foolish stewards - for generations. Or to be less nice & more precise, we’ve built an economy of gluttony. Better pump the water you can before your neighbor does. Get it while the getting is good. Worry not for tomorrow...
Who but the government would store water on the surface, in an area known for wind, with 300 (a guess) sunny days a year and a shockingly high evaporation coefficient!?
We deem #groundwater as non-renewable (wrongly IMHO) and mine it, to grow corn to produce ethanol. WTF...
Our rivers are dry. The headwaters of the Red, Brazos & Colorado, dry. Most of our springs & streams, dry too.
Water that infiltrates into the soil then percolates downward is banked - it's available for plants & people, for when we need it.
Floodplains prevent destructive flooding & contribute to larger water, sediment & nutrient cycling. Dams incise floodplains & disconnect drainages.
And water stored on the surface, in large reservoirs? It evaporates away - fastest when we most need it (hot dry & windy). So much is lost to zero beneficial use - and absurdly high unrealized costs.
I can go on & on... I won't here but the good people at Panhandle PBS let me talk & talk. And they talked to lots of others, and made a movie. Featuring in part, yours truly! An absolute honor 🙏
I do wish I'd shaved my mustache... 🤷🏼♂️
Debuts early November. #lfgrow 😉
