We utilize Big Data analytics and AI to analyze trends, optimize research processes, and make informed decisions. In June, the SUNOTEC Research Centre, Germany, organized the event "The Role of Energy Communities in the Decarbonisation Process" with the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), Bulgaria, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy, and Kyoto University, Japan. Leading scientists from the USA, Italy, Japan, Sweden, and Bulgaria participated. The event was led by Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Energy Georgi Samandov, Prof. Brian Wilson from the Colorado Institute of Energy CSU, and our Alexander Zahariev, Head of Strategy at SUNOTEC. The forum focused on the technical, administrative, and legal challenges in implementing energy communities. Researchers Ran Ji, Zongbao Zhang, Yvonne J. Hofstetter, Robin Buschbeck, Christian Hänisch, Fabian Paulus, and Yana Vaynzof at the Technische Universität Dresden have introduced a groundbreaking development in the field of photovoltaics with their work on phase heterojunction (PHJ) solar cells using metal halide perovskites. This new class of solar cells exploits polymorphism within perovskites to enhance solar energy conversion. By employing two polymorphs of the same material, namely 𝛾-CsPbI3 and 𝛽-CsPbI3, the team has effectively improved all photovoltaic parameters, achieving a power conversion efficiency of 20.1%. This notable increase stems from the effective passivation of defects, better energetic alignment, and enhanced light absorption. Key to these results is the team's innovative approach to combining 𝛾-CsPbI3's larger bandgap with 𝛽-CsPbI3's narrower bandgap, thereby increasing the built-in potential of the device. This strategic layering not only boosts efficiency but also leverages the inherent properties of each phase to stabilize the structure at room temperature. These findings hold promising implications for the future of solar energy, suggesting a shift towards more efficient and stable photovoltaic devices. The implications of this research extend beyond academic circles into practical applications that could see more durable and cost-effective solar panels.
