As Drake Power Plant's smokestacks fall silent, a heated debate ignites: progress or peril? This beacon of industrial prowess, once powering Colorado Springs' meteoric rise, now faces demolition, sparking a fierce clash between heritage and clean energy's promise. The site's transformation symbolizes a broader conflict over our energy future and the soul of urban development. Advocates hail the shift to renewables as a win for environmental stewardship, yet critics mourn the loss of a reliable power symbol and the potential economic fallout. This saga underscores the challenges and opportunities ahead for real estate and energy sectors, pushing us to reimagine how we power our cities without erasing our past. As we navigate this contentious transition, let's keep the dialogue open, ensuring Colorado Springs remains a beacon of innovation and history. Visit, move, or simply watch as America’s Backyard strides into a future where the past and progress converge. #ElevateSprings

During the short post-Labor Day work week, the DG+ team dove into articles covering greener rail transport, wildfire management, and the intersection of clean energy and this year’s presidential race. Check out our favorites below ⬇️ Fighting fire with fire🔥 It’s fire season on the West Coast, and this year’s burns already spell smoky skies ahead. California’s fire activity is already 3,000% higher than in 2023. To address the crisis, Republicans propose cutting forests down so there’s less fuel to feed the fire (https://shorturl.at/yQUlr). HEATED's Arielle Samuelson reports that this focus on logging, above all else, doesn’t see the forest for the trees and could actually make fires worse as ecosystems are disrupted. Increasingly, The New York Times explains, Silicon Valley startups are taking the opposite tack: fighting fire with fire (https://shorturl.at/MRN58). Firetech startups ranging from controlled-burn tech provider BurnBot, Inc. to forest management company Kodama Systems take into account natural forest conditions and leverage technology to shrink and prevent wildfires. Clean energy campaign claims🔋🗳️🤦♂️ We’re two months out from the election — campaign boasts are growing grander day in and day out, especially on climate. E&E News fact-checked some of the latest energy claims made by former President Trump and his VP nom JD Vance; most are largely exaggerated or outright false (https://shorturl.at/8ZtY0). Republican hopes of turning swing state voters against the Harris campaign may prove only somewhat successful, if they work at all. Though Michigan’s got the big bucks in cleantech and infrastructure investment, Democratic efforts to woo autoworkers may prove an uphill battle, notes Cipher News' Cat Clifford (https://shorturl.at/l5T9H). Bipartisan support for climate and clean energy efforts is growing in Wisconsin, but cost-conscious Pennsylvanian voters remain up for grabs. Re-energizing rail transport 🚄 America’s first hydrogen-powered, emission-free train (nicknamed Zemu) is coming to Southern California early next year and is set to boost air quality and aid the state’s 2045 decarbonization goals (https://shorturl.at/EJ0ke). According to The Guardian, California’s struggled to get large-scale and greener rail projects rolling despite widespread European success — Zemu could turn the tide and help kick off a new American era of cleaner energy-powered train ridership. Electric trains are approaching the one-month mark since their integration into the Bay Area’s commuter network. Fast Company's Adele Peters delves into the commuter benefits and climate boons alike (https://lnkd.in/g7gaeiU2). #RailTravel #2024Election #Wildfire #CleanEnergy #California

Did you know you could generate a stable revenue stream by leasing your land to GreenSpark, all while helping your community access clean energy and lower their energy costs? It's true! When you lease your land to GreenSpark, you receive ongoing revenue for the length of the lease term (typically 20-25 years). The average land lease rate paid per acre is $1,500 (and can vary based on the project details) and typically increases by 1-2% each year. In addition, by leasing your land, you can help New York State achieve its climate goals and bring more local, clean power to your community. Talk about a win-win situation! 👏 To explore land hosting in more detail and see if your land may qualify, check out the blog below! 👀 https://hubs.li/Q02JDHnx0 #landleasing #greensparksolar #cleanenergy #newyorkstate #solarpower

#MeetOurTeam: Marguerite Sheehan, Utility Advisor Moonshot Missions is comprised of passionate team members who strive to make a difference for communities in need. As a Utility Advisor, a large part of Marguerite’s role is gathering background information on the communities Moonshot assists so that our team of experts can provide recommendations for improvement. Another aspect of her role is assisting communities with the projects they take on to improve their systems. Marguerite loves learning about the communities we work with and traveling to see their wastewater treatment systems; she also enjoys the diversity of projects she works on because she is learning about the industry she’s passionate about. “One thing that people may not realize that Moonshot does is provide aid to decentralized water and wastewater systems, not just utilities; decentralized water and wastewater systems can fall through the cracks because they are small, harder to assist, and a lot of organizations don’t work with them.” While browsing LinkedIn, Marguerite found Moonshot Missions and knew it was the team she wanted to join because the work provides technical assistance to small and disadvantaged communities and their utility operators. “Moonshot is a unique place to work because our team is diverse in many ways, including experience, culture, and location; this diversity is something our organization can utilize to provide relevant, considerate, and innovative recommendations to our clients.” Marguerite says, “At Moonshot, helping communities provide safe drinking water and wastewater services is only limited by our imagination.” Outside of work, Marguerite’s interests can be broken down into four categories: musical theater, all things nerdy, crafting, and reclaiming her Diné culture. Building a better world is a job big enough for all of us. This is why our team values the power of Unlimited Collaboration and actively seeks opportunities to bring diverse skillsets, backgrounds and perspectives together for the shared purpose of delivering high-integrity climate solutions for generations to come. Our partnerships allow our team to approach the orphan well dilemma from every angle and develop genuine strategies designed to make the lasting impact that our communities want and need. For Rebel Project Manager Brooke Swain, who skillfully keeps our carbon credit projects on track, there’s no better example of Rebellion’s commitment to collaboration than our landowner partnerships. “Carbon credit incentives give us an opportunity to create incredibly effective custom projects alongside partners that are really in tune with the health and wellbeing needs of the people and ecology of that area,” Brooke shares. “We work with the landowners to gain valuable insights and tailor our projects because we understand that, while we bring technical and carbon credit expertise, they are the ones who know every inch of their land. It’s their home, livelihood, and more often than not, their family history. These are the people that have been affected by [this] at the micro level every day for decades. I love getting to know these families and how this work is meaningful for them. It’s a true partnership.” https://lnkd.in/gRcz7t3v Join us and our coalition of dynamic partners on this collective journey to develop a world of enduring progress and foster a brighter future together! #CoreValues #PartnershipsfortheGoals #Sustainability
