This kind of circularity should be obvious.
If you work or live by a University, you know how Move Out can kind of break your heart. But this year we did things differently… With the help of a great team of students and campus + community volunteers, this is ALL THE STUFF we saved from landfill at Illinois State University Move Out this year! Everything will be stored, sorted, and cleaned over the summer - then will be given back to incoming students for free during Summer Preview & at our big Front Yard Free Cycle this fall. This was one heavy lift: months of planning, then 10 straight days of collecting, transporting, and unloading moving trucks. (and of course some dumpster diving) We are exhausted, sore, and a little bruised up…but we did it! *Not seen: 600+ mattress toppers delivered to Kern Mattress for recycling into upholstery filler, hundreds of pounds of food delivered to the School Street Food Pantry, numerous tarps & sleeping bags dropped off at Home Sweet Home Mission homeless shelter, and about 20 pairs of crutches given to LIFE CIL.

Lessons from our 1st family holiday abroad 1. Sharing factor 50 with the kids results in a tan that's only slightly darker than what you'd get from a week in the Yorkshire Dales. 2. Paying for an all-inclusive package for a child mainly funds an unlimited supply of chicken nuggets, which often end up uneaten. 3. No amount of airport preparation can prevent your 4yr old from needing you to accompany them to the tiny airplane bathroom at 30,000 feet....and not for a wee.... 4. What you think will be your childs dream beach foam party can quickly turn into a tearful evacuation when bubbles get in their eyes. 5. Children need presence, not presents #SunscreenQueen 🇬🇧 Aztec Oils Southeast Ltd 🇬🇧 #family #parenting #fatherhood #learning #worklifebalance

📚🚸 School is Back - Slow Down in School Zones! 🚸📚 As our children head back to school, it's crucial to remember the importance of road safety, especially in school zones. At Cornerstone Funerals, we care deeply about our community and the well-being of its members. Please remember: Slow down: Adhere to the reduced speed limits in school zones. Stay alert: Watch for children crossing the road, especially during peak hours. Be patient: Kids might be excited and not always aware of their surroundings. Let's work together to ensure a safe return to school for all our children. One step wrong could lead to a tragedy. Eyes wide open, check your speed, and drive with care. #SchoolSafety #SlowDown #CommunityFirst #CornerstoneFunerals #RoadSafety #YODO

The majority of drowning incidents involving young children occur due to a lack of proper supervision. Even if there’s a lifeguard on duty, caregivers must still play an active role in supervising their child. Drowning is fast and silent – and as young children tend to be naturally curious about water, it’s crucial to closely monitor them at all times. The Lifesaving Society encourages parents, guardians, and caregivers to practice active supervision when in, on, and around the water. Actively supervising a child means that you’re within sight, earshot, and arm’s reach at all times. If you’re not within arm’s reach, you’ve gone too far. #Drowning #DrowningPrevention #DrowningIsPreventable #WithinArmsReach #SuperviseChildren #ActiveSupervision #NationalDrowningPreventionWeek #NDPW #NDPW2024 #WaterSmart PHOTO CONTEST INSPO: Take part in our NDPW photo contest by showing us examples of active supervision in, on, and around the water. 𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 🚽✨ Exciting news to share! We've successfully constructed two sex-segregated Ventilated Improved Pit Latrines in schools, providing enhanced sanitation facilities for a total of 1348 students. 🏫 Sanitation is not just about infrastructure; it's also about: • 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: By providing these facilities, we're actively contributing to the elimination of open defecation, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases in the community. • 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀: These latrines serve as safe spaces, empowering girls with a secure and private place to attend to their needs, fostering dignity and confidence. • 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: A clean and sanitary environment lays the groundwork for healthy, thriving children who can focus on learning in schools. This progress makes us happy and determined to keep on impacting lives for the better! 💙🌍 #SanitationForAll #CommunityImpact

Sponsor-A-Camper this year & give the gift of Summer Camp fun & exploration for a child in need! For youth from economically-challenged homes, the opportunity to enjoy a carefree summer spent learning and playing outdoors might be an impossible dream. Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge invites you to help give these children respite from the reality of their daily struggles and empower them with a connection to the natural world with a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to attend summer camp through the Sponsor-a-Camper Initiative. We know that the economic effects of the last year have been exceptionally hard on some families. Families are struggling with work, childcare, and education opportunities. We feel that shouldn’t exclude kids from having a carefree summer and an enriching camp experience. Our goal is to raise $3,000 with this initiative. This is enough to send 10 under-served campers to Cedar Run’s camp. Every penny will be used to provide a valuable experience for campers who may otherwise not be able to come. We are 20% funded so far! Please consider sponsoring a camper this year!
