Hundreds of people came out to East Lake Street today to celebrate both Juneteenth and the grand re-opening of the The Historical Coliseum Building Four years ago, the building suffered heavy damage during the social unrest after George Floyd’s murder and was almost torn down. Today, the Historic Coliseum Building is re-opening with a new look, new tenants and a mission to build generational wealth for BIPOC business owners and entrepreneurs. We at Sunrise Banks are proud to have financially supported the restoration of this historic building. A special thank you to Office of Governor Tim Walz & Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Councilmember Robin Wonsley and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar for attending today's grand opening and ribbon cutting. On our Sunrise Banks blog, you can read more about how the developers at Redesign, Inc. worked to preserve both the historic features and damage from the unrest. Fantastic space! Thrilled to see my friend Janice Downing and partners bring this important project to life.
