This origami-inspired structure becomes an emergency shelter in extreme arctic conditions. Deployable Emergency Shelter is an origami-inspired lifesaving facility for individuals facing harsh arctic conditions. By turning snow capture into a natural insulator and protective layer, this shelter provides occupants with a rugged, lightweight, and wind-resistant haven that can be easily and quickly set up in case of emergency. Designed by then-recent graduates Samuel Charles Barratt and Henry Glogau from the Royal Danish Academy, Deployable Emergency Shelter won the prestigious "Best of the Best" Red Dot Design Award in 2020. Whether the project will be commercialized is still unclear. #gigadgets #safety #shelter #innovative #origami

Sharing the incredible concept of how mangrove forests safeguard the coast is always a powerful reminder of the valuable utility of natural resources when utilized to their fullest potential! Mangroves are important to people because they help stabilize coastline ecosystem and prevent erosion. Mangroves also provide natural infrastructure and protection to nearby populated areas by preventing erosion and absorbing storm surge impacts during extreme weather events such as hurricanes. This simple model from the Dutch research institute Deltares makes it very easy to understand how mangroves protect the coast from the impact of waves. Mangroves, Guardians of the Coast 🌳🏞️ Mangroves belong to the family of root-bearing plants, thriving in equatorial climates along coastlines and tidal rivers, predominantly in saltwater environments. These resilient trees exhibit robust roots that extend above the ground. The environmental significance of mangroves stems from various characteristics: - Their intricate root systems act as filters, effectively trapping sediments and pollutants. - Acting as natural barriers, mangroves protect coastlines against the forces of wind, tides, and other intruders. - Mangrove forests play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, storing over 75 billion tons of carbon, surpassing even tropical forests. Mangroves flourish along the western coast of the Red Sea in Egypt and Sudan. Giants of Nature #Mangrove

🛠️ #Engineering Marvels in Nature: Sociable Weaver Bird Nests🐦 Stumbling upon this incredible sight, I couldn't help but marvel at the engineering ingenuity of nature. What you're looking at is a communal nest built by Sociable Weaver birds (Philetairus socius), native to Southern Africa. These nests are the largest structures built by any bird species and can house hundreds of birds across multiple generations. 🔍 #Interesting Facts: - These nests are incredibly durable and complex, providing different microclimates to suit the needs of the birds throughout the year. - They can weigh several hundred kilograms, sometimes causing the poles or trees they are built on to collapse under the weight. - The nests are maintained meticulously by the birds, with entrances facing downward to protect against predators. Next time you're thinking about innovative engineering solutions, take a moment to appreciate the natural world and its incredible creations. 🌍✨ #Nature #Engineering #Innovation

✅Rail Baltica's #geodesy experts recently had the chance to team up with the awesome global technical engineering company WSP for a #knowledgesharing session. 🚄🔎In early March, our experts, Andres Rüdja and Rait Leppik, had a great time at WSP in Sweden. They shared some insightful #reports, diving into the nitty-gritty of #geodetic #works and the details of Geodetic Networks in high-speed railway #construction. WSP came through with their wealth of expertise, giving us a solid overview of geodetic planning. The Swedish Road Administration (Trafikverket) also joined in, unveiling their geodetic Reference System and Networks in the ambitious "North Botnia Line" project. 🚄🔎Even though our projects may vary in size, both #RailBaltica and the #NorthBotniaLine encounter similar challenges. Getting our Geodetic Reference Systems and networks in sync is key to our #success. Big thanks to WSP for the insightful and beneficial visit! The shared information is a game-changer for our project development!🙌 #KnowledgeSharing #RailBaltica #GeodesyExperts #WSP #HighSpeedRailway #CEFTransport

**Title:** A Touching Tale of Cooperation in Nature 🌿🐦 **Content:** In the heart of the forest, amidst the rustling leaves and chirping birds, there exists a remarkable story of symbiosis between two unlikely allies: birds and stick insects. 🕊️🍃 For generations, these creatures have shared a unique bond, each playing a vital role in maintaining the delicate balance of their ecosystem. The birds, with their keen eyes and agile wings, soar high above the canopy, while the stick insects, masters of camouflage, blend seamlessly into the foliage below. But it is in times of adversity that their bond truly shines. During a particularly harsh winter, when food became scarce and survival seemed uncertain, the birds and stick insects rallied together in a display of solidarity. Through their combined efforts, they not only weathered the storm but emerged stronger, their partnership serving as a beacon of hope for all who witnessed it. 🌟 As we navigate our own challenges, let us draw inspiration from the remarkable resilience and cooperation found in nature. Together, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way. 💪🌿 🌊 Exciting News from Wash Engineering World! 🌍💧Join me in subscribing to the insightful newsletters curated by Agoti Dennis!
