When I was interviewing for my job at Northwest Lineman College, I was asked to share 5 words or phrases that described my ideal company culture. One thing I listed was "recognizes employees". I was assured by those on the hiring committee that recognizing the value and contributions of employees was a big part of NLC's culture. I have personally witnessed this to be true. In my four years of employment, I've experienced everything from personal calls from Leadership thanking me for my work (I still have a voicemail saved on my phone from our former President Leanna Whitney!) to gift giving to entire days dedicated to celebrating and recognizing employees. I've been thinking a lot lately about how we are ALL responsible for contributing to the culture of our company. If being recognized for something that I've put a lot of time and effort into makes ME feel valued as an employee, then I need to make sure that I am taking time to recognize others too. I think it's easy to get busy and let things like recognition slide, so I have written this question on my office whiteboard: "Who can I recognize today?" It's the first thing I see when I walk in the door, and is a good reminder to take 2 minutes to write a card, send an email, or pick up the phone and thank one or more of my project team members for their contributions. I'm trying to make recognition a habit, and hope in this small way I can contribute positively to our company culture.

Professional EOS Implementer | Coach & Mentor | Change Management | I help Entrepreneurs, Leaders & Business Owners get what they want from business & life.
Fixing a tough work environment is like cleaning up a messy room – it takes everyone pitching in and a clear plan. First off, leaders need to step up. They've got to show the way by being open, fair, and always ready to chat. But it's not just a one-person job. Everyone at work should have their say, helping to make the place better for all. We need to be clear about what's okay and what's not at work, making sure everyone's on the same page. If someone's not playing fair, we've got to sort it out straight away, but always in a way that helps them get better. Trust is key. We've got to build a place where everyone feels safe to speak up, knowing they'll be heard and respected. And we can't just fix things once and forget about it. We need to keep checking in, making sure we're all still heading in the right direction. Turning a bad work vibe into a good one isn't quick or easy. It needs everyone to keep trying, every day. But when we do it right, work becomes a place where everyone wants to be, doing their best together. Let's make our workplace a spot where everyone feels valued and happy. Because when we get the vibe right, everything else starts to work better too. #CultureMatters #WorkplaceCulture #PeopleFirst #LeadwithValues

We pass through the same hallways every day. We see the same decoration, brand posters, walls with a lot of colors in my case ;). We focus on greeting with a smile, having everything clean, on having the emergency exit clear and sometimes we miss out on all of the above because we are distracted by thinking, chatting, answering emails on the phone or checking was is next in our agenda. Today, I looked closely at the wall where we share recognitions for talents who are "killing it" It surely took me 1 minute between handing out the card, recognizing a talent for a job well done and taking a picture. It reminded me one of the very first books I read when I started my career. The One Minute Manager! How much impact can we make in the life of a talent, guest, friend, relative, even ourselves in just 1 minute? Meanwhile, I recharged myself appreciating the smiles of all the talents on this wall, it only took 1 minute of my day. I took a deep breath and walked away… #belong #justthinking #killingitcard #oneminute #takecare

We all want to be professional, right? But does that mean we have to leave our true selves at the door? Absolutely not! 🙅♀️ There’s a way to do both. The workplace would be better off if more people could harness the strengths that come with their own personal brand of individuality. So, how do we strike that balance? Check out this week’s blog post at the link below to learn more about leveraging your authentic self at work! https://lnkd.in/gr3vTZvj

At my first job, we took an expensive personality test to find out what motivates you as an employee. While 95% said money was their top motivator, I stood out awkwardly because my number one answer was culture. Ten years later, Socium Media has 45 employees and is recognized for having one of the best cultures in the USA. We offer great perks like free health insurance, unlimited vacation, learning stipends, and company retreats. But I feel that the best perk that turns our offering from great to exceptional is our open and transparent communication: ➤ Regular feedback systems ➤ Annual reviews for everyone ➤ Internal QBRs for transparent leadership ➤ Answering anonymous questions every quarter I'll always stay true to this: Focus on people first—everything else will fall into place.

18+ years’ success in shaping cohesive internal environments through strategic communication planning and execution.
We spend a significant amount of time performing in the workplace. Whether it's presenting ourselves in a formal or casual manner or deciding which sound bites to share about our lives outside of work, we're always making choices about how we present ourselves. But why do we do it? To fit in? To appeal to the ideals set by others? To feel safe? The cost of not being our authentic selves can be high. When we only show selected parts of ourselves, our team members and colleagues sense it and it can impact the quality of our professional relationships. It's like reading a book about a one-dimensional character who always has it together - it's boring and we don't trust them. It takes courage to bring your authentic self to work, but it's vital for your team and colleagues. Your unique perspective, skills, and insights shaped by your lived experience make a product or experience exponentially better, more appealing, and more inclusive. It enhances your ability to connect in meaningful ways with others. So how do you intentionally bring your authentic self to work? What does that mean or look like to you? #authenticity #authenticleadership

Last week I had a great time connecting with some of the team at WISE Employment. Thank you to Leesa Miller for the invitation. Using the Emotional Culture Deck (ECD) we starting exploring the F word - feelings - at work. We asked the question: 𝘔𝘺 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨.... Check out some of the amazing feelings that, when experienced, help this team be their best: And so here's my question to you all: 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗨𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗬 𝗢𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚? #emotionalculture #feelingsatwork #emotionalculturedeck

Sock it to me! Wait, what does a post about socks have to do with business or my experiences working in HR and Talent Acquisition roles? Well, for those who don't know me too well, a fun fact about me is the fact I haven't worn a normal pair of socks in well over 10 years. Maybe it's a fun design, maybe it's a Marvel character, or it's something Goofy (capitalized because he is without a doubt my favorite Disney character). Whenever I had a new direct report assigned to me, I would always try to invest the time in that person to understand what makes them who they are. This way I could find what not only brings them happiness, things that might impact them outside of work, and also better understand what kind of support they might be looking from their direct leader. In my experiences, when you're able to create an engaging team that feels comfortable and supported, you can leverage their diverse strengths, interests and curiosities for the betterment of your team. The more you try to hire your teams within a certain type of personality, or fit them within a certain box, the less room for creativity and growth you're going to find within your team. Let's celebrate individuality, creativity, and making everyone feel appreciated for who they are, and not who you want them to be. #FridayFeelings #EmployeeEngagement #LaidOff #HRProfessionals

Vulnerability is the core, the heart, the center of meaningful human experiences – yes, even at work. It's about the willingness to show up, to be seen, and to engage genuinely, even when you can't control the outcome. It's the courage to say, "I need help," "I don't know," or "I made a mistake." But it's also about sharing your successes, your dreams, and your aspirations. Think about the last time someone at work shared a personal story, a difficulty they were facing, or an idea they were nervous about. Didn't that just open up a whole new level of dialogue? Suddenly, you're not just colleagues; you're human beings connecting on a deeper level.
