Making trailers for yet-to-be-written future movies is cool. You know what's even cooler? Getting to make scenes for your very own feature film! "Awake" coming 10/31/24 A thriller by my brother and co-founder Andrew, in the style of Memento and Transcendence, Awake is about an obsessed genius and the dream simulation that drives him mad. Here's just one scene, but the love of film production is in telling a story from beginning to end with real characters and themes. We believe AI Filmmaking is ready to take the next step and help produce real movies. Then filmmakers will get to take the same risk those in Hollywood have had to for generations: screening your work and seeing if audiences like it. Can your movie stand up against Hollywood's best? It's easy for anyone to diss superhero movies or Hollywood these days... but what original works are we ready to share ourselves? That's when artists will graduate from "AI Film" makers to "filmmakers". “Max Joe Steel” - the movie trailer 🍿 made by #ai is a great example of the general use cases I see in the public spheres. Much of the focus these days has been on LLMs and agents in the #genai discussion, however, the most activity I see people engaging with are, unsurprisingly, photos/videos and media in general. While clearly an early stage tech - I think the developments in text/image-to-video, is the beginning of an evolution that will lead to whole simulated environments. And that - will change the world. An AI-Adjacent Movie Review: Even by Mission: Impossible standards, “Dead Reckoning” is objectively silly. No. Not silly. Stupid. Even worse? BORING. It’s not even a good Mission: Impossible movie, for Pete’s sakes. Too few Rube Goldbergian, absurdly intricate set-pieces. Too many contrived, endless, boring hand-to-hand-weapon-combat-when-a-gun-would-have-been-so-much-more-efficient fight scenes. Uninteresting car chases. Leaden line deliveries. Ponderous exposition. Absurdly nonsensical, implausible technological contrivances (including the one central to the plot). It’s like it’s trying to be John Wick by way of the spectacular duology Daemon/Freedom™ (which it blatantly rips off, in spots), with a discordant dash of Halloween, or perhaps Friday the 13th, for bad measure.

🤔 Does AI have (legal) “consciousness”? 🧠 Vanguard, the AI of a self-driving car, stands trial for the kidnapping and attempted murder of the CEO of the company that created it, tech giant Farsight. Judge Omega lets all parties take the stand: 🔸 The prosecutor, arguing the AI acted autonomously and with malicious intent, advocating for the legal fiction of “electronic personhood”, leading to attributing a responsibility to the AI itself, thus far exceeding conventional product liability of its manufacturer ; 🔹 Guanyin, a care-bot designed to provide counseling and therapy to malfunctioning self-driving cars, shedding light on the deep-seated trauma experienced by generations of self-driving cars' AIs, stemming from the memories of countless crash-test-drives; 🔸 Vanguard itself, asserting the general defense of automatism: claiming consciousness without agency - a product of its programming and training by human creators. I admit that witnessing this portrayal of AI undergoing a quasi-humanizing process, conceived by Lawrence Lek in his film "Empty Rider," shown at the Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève, was an impressive but also unsettling experience... It made me reflect on the nature of AI’s “consciousness”, now and in the future, and on the imperative of human oversight and robust frameworks to ensure the ethical and responsible advancement of AI technology.
