Tech tantrums--when tech meets humanity The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Baroness Beeban Kidron "I ... talk about five red-faced, decibel-defying ‘Tech Tantrums’ performed by the tech sector when told that they must play by societal rules. These tantrums, two of which I was involved in and three that have been widely reported, reveal the disregard for societal norms by a sector that has successfully fought a battle to remain unimpeded by the rules that contain others. This is often referred to as tech exceptionalism." For background on the talk: https://lnkd.in/eJFm8cCw. https://lnkd.in/eqWY927K

"Thrilled to have had the opportunity to share insights and motivation today to the second-year informatics students of Rongo University, my alma mater where I graduated in 2019. 🚀 Led by my former lecturer and their current lecturer, Lamek Ronoh, it was inspiring to discuss overcoming project challenges in the tech world. From troubleshooting technical issues to fostering resilience and collaboration, it's amazing to see the dedication and determination of these aspiring developers. Grateful for the engaging discussion and valuable perspectives shared by all participants. Here's to empowering the next generation of tech innovators! 💻 #TechEducation #ProblemSolving #Empowerment"

As I think about fostering safe, inclusive environments, for our teams, our faculty, our industries, and our conference attendees, I think about the best Code of Conduct I've ever seen, which is from Lesbians Who Tech & Allies. I find their position on allyship (quoted below) particularly important and impactful, especially within my network, as a lot of us are in relatively privileged or powerful positions, which comes with, I believe, a certain obligation. Allyship is about actively reframing knowledge and actively changing power dynamics. Please engage these practices: 💡Listen and learn, even when you feel confused or uncomfortable. 📚 Educate yourself instead of asking others to educate you. 🙌 Don’t take credit for ideas originated by people on the front lines. 👀 Act like an ally when no one is watching. 🎁 Acknowledge your privilege. 💪 Be resilient. 💰 Contribute resources: Time. Money. Visibility. Opportunity. 🔁 Repeat. You can find their code of conduct here: https://lnkd.in/gUr52KNZ

🌟✨ Monday Arise: Embracing the Gift of Technology 🌟✨ "Technology is a gift from God. After the gift of life, it is perhaps the greatest of God's gifts. It is the mother of civilizations, of arts and of sciences." – Freeman Dyson As we embark on a new week, I am reminded of the profound impact technology has had on our lives, personally and professionally. As the CEO of Tech Savvy Teachers International, a wife, mother, and mentor, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of technology in education and beyond. When embraced with gratitude and purpose, technology becomes a beacon of growth and connection. It allows us to break down barriers, fostering a community where knowledge is shared freely, and learning knows no bounds. I recall a time when one of our teachers, used a simple app to connect her students with peers across the globe. The joy and curiosity in their eyes as they discovered new cultures and perspectives was truly a testament to the boundless possibilities technology offers. But let's not forget the human element. Consistent communication and unwavering core values are the foundation of any thriving team. Whether it's a supportive message to a colleague, a virtual hug to a friend, or a heart-to-heart with a student, these connections are what truly enrich our journey. As a mentor, I strive to lead by example, encouraging open dialogue and empathy in every interaction. So, to all the incredible teachers, dedicated mothers, and visionary school owners out there, let's harness the divine gift of technology to inspire, educate, and uplift. Let's build bridges of understanding and create a future where innovation and compassion go hand in hand. Here's to a week filled with progress, unity, and unending possibilities. 🌍💖📚 #MondayArise #TechSavvyTeachers #IfyObidiEssien #EducationInnovation #MentorshipMatters #MothersWhoLead #BuildingBridges #Inspiration #Growth #Community #FaithInTechnology #EmpowermentThroughTech

We are Making the Tech We Want 🗓️ October 17, 14:30 - 15:30 CEST 📍 Panel 4 Open Knowledge Foundation brings together a list of incredible panelists, including Jaromil, and invite you to insightful discussions led by experts who are challenging the status quo and envisioning a more equitable and sustainable tech future. Another stack is possible! — register now and help shape the tech we want! In recent years, technology has adopted a complex, wasteful, and expensive approach to serving its purpose, making it rare, even in the open movement, to find affordable, accessible, and sustainable software. There is an urgent need for the technology industry to re-think how software is developed, which tools do we use and how tech solutions are currently conceived, coded, and deployed. During these two-day The Tech We Want Online Summit, the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN) is bringing together key voices working on public interest technologies to start a collective conversation about new practical ways to build software that is useful, simple, long-lasting and focused on solving people's real problems. https://lnkd.in/getShzYj This is an online event free of charge and open to everyone. Open Knowledge welcomes registrations by everyone, especially technology workers, developers, engineers and programming language specialists who are interested in taking a critical look at current technologies. #purpose #technologyrocks #approach #openknowledge #knowledge
