2025 will be a year in which the credibility of choices related to the #sustainabledevelopment of cities will be put at stake by the shaking geopolitical environment. For this reason, top-down and ineffective choices risk becoming a boomerang for the sustainability goals to which we are held accountable. Forbes has identified, among the eight trends that will shape 2025, the increasingly crucial role of #artificialintelligence used to plan and deliver services to those living in urban areas more efficiently. In this sense, we believe that in order to ensure continuity of the major investments and forward-looking policies that are greatly needed beyond all political sensibilities, it is essential to build the future of our cities together with those who live in them, starting from their needs and requirements and generating a sense of belonging with the common challenges we face. #Digitization and the ethical use of new tools for urban innovation will still be at the heart of the sustainable development of cities.

🌿Forward Thinking Friday: Navigating the Future of Sustainable Cities 🌍 Imagine it’s the year 2030, and you're leading an ambitious project to transform an emerging city into a beacon of sustainability. You’ve been tasked with integrating sustainable energy solutions that will shape the future of this city—and the choices you make today will impact not only the environment but the lives of thousands of people. ➡️ You have — three major pathways — ahead of you. Each choice comes with its own challenges and opportunities, and what you decide could set the tone for urban development for decades to come. Which path would you choose? 1️⃣ Invest in cutting-edge green technology** that hasn’t been tested on this scale yet. The potential is massive, but so is the risk. 2️⃣ Focus on educating and empowering the local community first**, ensuring that they understand and support the changes being made. What did we learn during the FUSTIC Ecosystem Innovation Day 2024? 🌍 Roundtable: Embracing an Ecosystemic Approach to Territorial Transitions 🎤 Speakers: Charlotte Jacquot, Circular Economy Expert Jean-Marie Buchilly, Head of Water Services, Ville de Lausanne Antonio da Silva, Green IT Director, Ville de Lausanne Gregory Bernarda, Founder, @Up-ruption Jacques Panchard, Strategyzer Coach and InnoPME Program Founder Tom Robinson, Strategic Foresight Lead, Vega EPFL 🔑 Key Highlights: 1. 🏛️ Public Sector Leadership: Leadership plays a crucial role in aligning stakeholders and driving progress through pilot projects that build trust and demonstrate early results. Successfully navigating long-term goals requires balancing political timelines with innovative strategies. Transitioning from concept to implementation remains a significant challenge. 2. 🤝 Private Sector Contribution: Ecosystems thrive when they unlock new value rather than simply redistributing existing resources. Transparent and accountable use of public funds is essential to enhance collaboration and create impactful solutions that sustain stakeholder engagement. 3. 🧠 Human-Centric Innovation: Addressing sustainability challenges begins with understanding human behavior and ensuring that technology serves as a tool to meet clearly defined societal and environmental priorities. 4. 🏗️ Collaborative Public-Private Models: Shifting from prescriptive approaches to negotiation-based collaboration fosters co-creation between public and private stakeholders. This approach supports the development of sustainable, innovative, and inclusive urban communities. 🚀 Takeaway: To successfully navigate territorial transitions, we must align leadership, unlock ecosystem value, and prioritize collaboration across sectors, ensuring sustainable and inclusive urban development. #EcosystemInnovation #SustainableDevelopment #CircularEconomy #UrbanLeadership #PublicPrivatePartnerships #TerritorialTransitions #HumanCentricDesign #Foresight #Collaboration #InnovationEcosystems Variatys Frédéric Dreyer(-Gonzales) (PhD, MBA) EPFL ENAC Augustin Solioz Sarah Godard Alexander Osterwalder Iohannès Bry WOOD BEE Etat de Vaud unlimitrust

LET'S REWIND 2024: The year I learned sustainable development isn't just about designing green buildings, but about architecting social change. Completing my BSc in Real Estate was more than an academic milestone—it was a commitment to transforming how we think about urban spaces, equity, and environmental stewardship. From earning the EDGE certification to completing the Cambridge Climate Law and Governance Specialization and obtaining certification from the world bank Sustainable Urban Planning course, each step expanded my understanding that true sustainability connects infrastructure, social justice, and human potential. As a Research and Teaching Assistant at KNUST's Department of Land Economy, I'm not just studying systems—I'm helping reimagine them. This year proved that knowledge isn't just about accumulation, but about activation. Three moments that crystallized my journey: • Empowered to Build a Greener Future: Gaining profound insights into green building principles. "The EDGE course has opened doors to new opportunities, enhanced my expertise, and connected me with like-minded professionals." https://lnkd.in/d_NT3yYr • A Holiday Message on Equality: Recognizing sustainability's deeper meaning. "Social equality is not just a moral imperative, but a foundation for a just and prosperous society." https://lnkd.in/dY-3qeB2 • Sustainable Design Guide: Sharing practical pathways for transformative change. "Implement energy-efficient design to minimize consumption and reduce reliance on non-renewable resources." https://lnkd.in/dqTj43pE Looking ahead to 2025: The blueprint is drawn. Now it's time to build—not just structures, but possibilities. ‘The Age of Abundance’: Social Connect ➡️ Sustainable Innovation ➡️ ‘One World’ As we stand on the brink of a transformative era, our collective vision of the future is evolving. Driven by technological advancements, mindful of environmental imperatives, and shaped by our shared values, we’re redefining what it means to live, work, and connect. In this Age of Abundance, smart cities will reshape urban landscapes. These cities will pulse with interconnected systems for energy, transportation, and public services—all designed to create a sustainable, efficient, and inclusive society. Imagine buildings powered by renewable energy, wrapped in green rooftops, and constructed with materials that honor the environment - it’s not dream; it’s happening But beyond the technology, our future society will heavily drive on the strength of social connections and the evolution of social commerce. With social platforms integrating more deeply into our lives, commerce will become a tool for community building, enabling individuals to support local businesses, promote sustainable products, and make meaningful choices that resonate with their values. The goal is clear: ‘One World’, united in purpose, where every innovation and decision is made with people and the planet in mind. Together, we can create a society that’s abundant not only in resources but also in compassion, inclusivity, and sustainability. Let’s act together and Welcome Change, Champion Sustainable Development, and Build a Future where our advancements enhance ‘Human Connection’ and create a ‘Human Community’ rather than replace it. After all, progress means little if it doesn’t make the world a better place for everyone…✅✅ Check this link at your free time: https://lnkd.in/gs-dK_Mx #AgeOfAbundance #SocialConnect #SmartCities #Sustainability #OneWorld #SocialCommerce #FutureOfCities #SustainableInnovation #ThoughtLeadership #business #leadership #socialmedia #technology #transformation #society #life #future #futurism
