ABIA and the food industry sector announced an investment of R$120 billion by 2026 for new factories, expansion of existing units, research, development, and innovation. The minister highlighted that these investments are driven by the growth of the sector and the need to renew machinery and equipment to reduce costs and increase productivity, competitiveness, decarbonization, and energy efficiency. Of the total, R$75 billion will be allocated to the expansion and modernization of plants and the construction of new units throughout Brazil. The remaining R$45 billion will be allocated to research and development. 🍫 The cocoa capital of the world... West Africa, producing a mighty 3.9 million tonnes in 2022! Around a million farmers in Côte d’Ivoire are supplying big names like Nestlé, Mars, and Hershey. 🏆 Côte d’Ivoire became the world’s largest producer with 2.2 million tonnes of cocoa in 2022, making up a third of the global total! In Indonesia, they whipped up 667,000 tonnes of cocoa, with the U.S., Malaysia, and Singapore as their major importers. Small-scale farmers produce 95%, but they're facing some serious hurdles like low pay and impacts from climate change. Previously, Ecuador was No.1 in chocolate production, but tough luck in the global market and crop diseases bumped it down the rankings. Now, Ecuador is all about high-grade chocolate, with cocoa havens buried in the Amazon rainforest. 🌍 Global cocoa production hit a sweet 6.5 million tonnes, thanks to our love for a chocolate bar!
