I can't help but smile and be overjoyed at Lisa's transparency as a hiring manager and leader. It shows great confidence, but it also shows respect for job seekers who are vetting their next role. In my 12 years of involvement in the hiring process, either as the hiring manager or the HR person supporting the efforts, the equation is often one-sided with the company leading or controlling the conversation. Of course, candidates will follow the company's direction in terms of interview steps, but job seekers, this is YOUR time too. Attention to all my #product friends actively applying: This should be the way we recruit for product hires. Product management is not just a job, it's philosophical practice to make "ideas" become reality. A resume can't screen for HOW someone develops an idea and wrangles a crew to make it happen. I urge hiring managers to adopt this approach like the post demonstrates below: foster direct connections with candidates early on to gauge their holistic potential, rather than relying solely on resume highlights like 'optimized a button for 30% more conversions. I'm currently an IC but if I was a hiring manager, this is what I'd do too. P.S Your manager makes or breaks your career.
