I support Which? call for the next government to tackle the scams epidemic by appointing a Fraud Minister to make fighting fraud a national priority. Fraud accounts for over 40% of all crime, affecting not just businesses or the economy, but some of the most vulnerable members of the public. This dirty money also funds serious and organised crime, terrorism, hostile state actors and human trafficking. But only 1% of the total policing budget is spent on stopping fraud. Rachel Blake Joe Powell Powell and I recently wrote for Progressive Britain about what a Labour government could do to prioritise the fight against fraud and dirty money. 👇 https://lnkd.in/em-Y2rDZ Helen Fairfax-Wall
We’re calling for the next government to appoint a Fraud Minister to tackle the UK scams epidemic and make fighting fraud a national priority. If you agree, please sign and share our petition. Fraud is the most common crime in the UK. It’s estimated that more than 43m adults in the UK have encountered scams online and the rapid rise of AI will turbocharge that number. Targeted fraud attacks against consumers are often perpetrated by organised crime groups. The Fraud Minister must lead a clear strategy to stop organised crime online and focus on fraud as a fundamental part of the UK’s wider crime strategy. We’ve relaunched our #StampOutScams campaign to include these new demands. #Fraud #OnlineScams
