Did you know that Ratan Tata had a great fondness for dogs? When asked what his greatest luxury had been, Tata once said that it was making a swimming pool for his dogs. As a veterinarian who has for long admired Ratan Tata, I found myself thinking about him yesterday and felt that there is a lot we can learn from his entrepreneurial and philanthropic journey that resonate even in the world of veterinary practice. Here are five key takeaways for aspiring vets who aim to build a successful practice while making a meaningful difference: 1. Purposeful Giving: Ratan Tata's philanthropy emphasizes aligning giving with personal values. For vets, this could mean supporting animal shelters, wildlife conservation, or community outreach programs. It's about making a genuine impact, however big or small. 2. Empathy and Compassion: Tata's empathetic approach highlights understanding different walks of life. Vets can apply this by being compassionate towards pet owners, recognizing their emotional bond with their animals, and offering support beyond just medical treatment. 3. Long-Term Vision: Tata's visionary leadership transformed India's automobile industry. Vets can adopt this by focusing on sustainable practices, investing in advanced technology, and contributing to the long-term health and well-being of animals in their community. 4. Adaptability: Tata's receptiveness to new ideas fueled his success. Vets need to stay updated on advancements in veterinary medicine, embrace new technologies, and adapt their practice to meet the evolving needs of their clients and patients. 5. Resilience: "Take the stones people throw at you and use them to build a monument." This quote exemplifies resilience. Vets often face challenges, but by learning from setbacks and criticism, they can build a stronger, more successful practice. By learning from his life, aspiring vets can create a thriving practice that not only serves their clients but also contributes positively to the veterinary profession and animal welfare as a whole. #RestInPeace #RatanTata #veterinarypractice

I had two dogs, and whoever has had them knows they are more than just family. At the age of 86, Ratan Tata inaugurated India’s first, largest, and most advanced small animal hospital in Mumbai. Inspired by his journey to find top-notch medical care for his injured dog, Tata’s vision has brought to life a state-of-the-art facility that spans an impressive 2.2 acres. Funded with a significant investment of Rs 165 crore, the hospital will be one of India's rare 24/7 hospitals. It will cater not only to dogs but also to cats, rabbits, and other small animals. Additionally, a dedicated unit run by an NGO will focus solely on the well-being of stray dogs, demonstrating a well-rounded approach to animal care. This groundbreaking initiative is a powerful reminder of the deep bond we share with our furry companions. Just as we rush our human loved ones to the hospital, it's crucial to have a dedicated space for our pets to receive the best possible care. This hospital has the potential to save limbs and lives while also aiding in disease treatment. Ratan Tata's legacy of exceptional work continues with this project. He is a true symbol of compassion and humanity, with unwavering innovation, ethics, and philanthropy. An icon and inspiration for all of us to be better, to contribute in the smallest of ways possible, and to be genuinely human. PS: Have you ever struggled to find advanced care for your pet? Share your story. PPS: What do you think this Tata Group initiative means for the future of animal care in India? #animalcare #ratantata #tatagroup #healthcare

As we mark World Veterinary Day, I want to take a moment to appreciate the extraordinary roles veterinarians play across the globe. Beyond clinics, hospitals, and farms, veterinarians are at the forefront of innovation, public health, environmental conservation, and global food security. Innovators in Animal Health: Veterinarians are innovators, constantly pushing the boundaries of medical technology to improve animal care. They’re developing new treatments, refining surgical techniques, and advancing the welfare of animals in once unimaginable ways. Guardians of Public Health: By influencing public health policy, veterinarians ensure that health standards and practices consider the well-being of all species, highlighting the interconnectedness of our global ecosystem. Their work extends to ensuring the safety of our food supply and combating diseases that could impact human health. Advocates for Conservation: Veterinarians are not only healers of animals but also stewards of our planet. They are conservationists, their efforts to protect endangered species, rehabilitate wildlife, and preserve biodiversity are vital to maintaining the delicate balance of our ecosystems. Sacrifices Made: Veterinarians' sacrifices often go unnoticed. Long hours, emotional tolls, and the physical demands of the job are just a few of the challenges they face. Yet, they persevere, driven by a profound commitment to animal welfare and the betterment of our world. On this World Veterinary Day, let’s acknowledge and celebrate the diverse and impactful ways veterinarians contribute to our lives and the planet's health. At Zoetis, we are immensely grateful for the dedication and the sacrifices they make every day. #WorldVeterinarianDay #VeterinaryMedicine #AnimalHealth #PublicHealth #Conservation #Innovation

In India, taking in a stray animal for adoption can be a fulfilling experience that changes the adoptee's and the animal's lives. To assist you with navigating the process, consider the following crucial advice: Examine Your Readiness: Make sure you are prepared for the time, energy, and financial commitment that come with being a pet owner. 2. Wellness Exam: See a veterinarian for a comprehensive wellness examination and immunizations. Health problems that require urgent attention may be present in strays. 3. Training and Socialization: Give the animal the time and attention it needs to become accustomed to its new surroundings and way of life. 4. Nutrition: Give the animal a well-balanced diet that is appropriate for its size, age, and state of health. 5. Pet proofing: Make sure your new pet has a safe and secure place to live. Make a cozy area for them, and remove any potentially dangerous parts. 6. Love and Patience: As your new pet gets used to their new surroundings, show them lots of love and patience. 7. Community Support: For advice and assistance, get involved with your neighborhood animal welfare organizations. An animal's chances of survival can be increased and the number of stray animals greatly decreased by adopting them. People in your community may be motivated to show kindness by your deed of kindness. #AdoptDontShop #StrayAnimals #PetAdoption #AnimalWelfare #India #RescuePet #StrayDog #StrayCat #PetCare #VetsOfIndia #AnimalShelter #LoveAnimals #SaveStrays #PetsOfIndia #ResponsiblePetOwnership #vervetico

𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 Today is also the day I would typically post about how many animals Dogstar Foundation sterilised over the past 12 months. But you know what? Reducing our work to a single number does Dogstar and the animals we serve a disservice. Recently, I’ve seriously reflected on how the sector and I often promote spay-neuter programs by the number of animals sterilised. Yes, Dogstar has sterilised tens of thousands of animals, but the real story lies with the people and the impact behind those numbers. Counting procedures isn’t enough. Focusing solely on numbers risks overlooking critical elements like animal welfare, quality of care, and long-term sustainability. Worse, it can foster competition for funds, lead to dangerous shortcuts that compromise welfare standards, and contribute to the ever-growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). That’s why the Dogstar way focuses on: • 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲: Every animal we treat receives compassionate, high-standard care from our expertly trained, 100% Sri Lankan veterinary team. • 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Our dedication to continuous learning ensures team members’ skills remain sharp, ethical, and practical. We challenge ourselves and each other to do better every day. • 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: We empower our teams to take ownership of their projects and animal welfare solutions. • 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: We invest in and nurture local talent to create equitable change. • 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆: We focus on positive patient outcomes over numerical targets. Donors can and do expect “big wow factor” numbers, but this mindset can inadvertently harm the very animals we aim to protect. True impact comes from creating systems that prioritise welfare, build local capacity, and address root causes, ensuring every life is treated with dignity and respect. So, while numbers will always have their place, it's street dogs like Billy (pictured) and the dedicated humans behind them that define our mission. My New Year's Resolution is avoid the trap of “vanity metrics" in 2025 ! Sam

At Cartula Health India, we believe in the power of social responsibility and creating meaningful change, not just within the healthcare sector but in the broader ecosystem as well. Our initiative to feed and care for stray animals is an extension of this philosophy. By nurturing 50 strays, we aim to address the often-overlooked issue of stray animals in urban areas, reducing their vulnerability and ensuring they have access to proper food and care. The impact of this initiative extends beyond animal welfare. By fostering a culture of compassion and coexistence, we encourage communities to take responsibility for the animals that share their environment. Feeding strays reduces the risks associated with malnutrition and disease among animals, which can also have positive ripple effects on public health and safety. Moreover, this initiative sets an example for other organizations to integrate social good into their operations, proving that businesses can drive change not only through profits but through conscious, compassionate actions. By dedicating a portion of our profits to this cause, we hope to inspire a greater sense of empathy and awareness, contributing to the creation of a more balanced and humane society. In the long run, we aim to expand this initiative, collaborating with local communities and authorities to develop sustainable solutions for stray animal care, thus amplifying our social impact.

20 veterinary hospitals. 🏥 1 replicable design. ♻️ Countless lives impacted. 🐶🐾 Here’s my story. 👇 I had the privilege of designing 20 veterinary hospitals across Uttar Pradesh, India—the most populous state in India, with nearly five times the population of the UK. These hospitals (currently under construction 🏗️) are being built in 20 municipalities using a single, scalable design. Why did I take on this project voluntarily? 🤔 Because I believe in the mission of saving dogs. 🐕 (I have nine of my own! 🐾❤️) Through the state’s Animal Birth Control (ABC) Program, these hospitals will help manage the stray dog population, save countless animal lives, and promote humane treatment and coexistence. 🌏🐕 Since I couldn’t stay in India long-term, I wanted to contribute in a way that would leave a lasting impact. 🌟 Now, I’m making this design file available to organizations in other countries facing similar challenges. 🌎✈️ I’m particularly thinking of places like Turkey, where the stray dog population could benefit greatly from such an initiative. These hospitals are meant to be a foundation for humane and effective population control and veterinary care. 🩺🐾 Are you part of an organization working towards animal welfare? 🐾🐕 If so, feel free to reach out. 💌 Let’s work together to make a difference—for the animals 🐾 and for our communities. 🏙️❤️ P.S. The work we do for animals often ends up saving us too. ❤️🐕 If you like what I do, drop me a comment! Note: Feel free to use the file. Just make sure you save lives. #AnimalWelfare #VeterinaryCare #DogLovers #StrayDogs #SavingAnimals #HumaneTreatment #AnimalRescue #CommunityImpact #PopulationControl #ArchitecturalDesign #SustainableDevelopment #MakeADifference #India #Turkey #UttarPradesh
