I don't like or agree with the 4 labels for coaching presented in this article but I definitely agree coaches need to differentiate their approach based on client needs and their unique coaching style. This is why contracting is SO crucial in the coaching process. Skip it at your peril! ❌ Coaching shouldn't be process driven or transactional. ❌ It shouldn't involve telling people what to do ❌ It shouldn't serve your needs above the clients ✅ It should be flexible and adaptable. ✅ It should guide but not direct. ✅ It should be human centred. But rather than getting bogged down by the rights and wrongs of coaching styles and a set of predetermined questions, I find the second part of this article useful. So go ahead and skip straight down to the part about 'Prioritizing Coaching' 😅 The authors offer some excellent pointers here: 🌎 "Coaching is a component of culture: Do you ask before you tell?" 🌎 "Coaching needs to balance both individual and organizational goals." 🌎 "To foster a coaching culture, be explicit about why coaching (and not just supervision) is critical." 🌎 "Define roles and responsibilities, identify a few techniques or a model to anchor practices, and measure progress" What do my fellow educator coaches make of this article? #coaching #coachingineducation

The most important one is to get buy in from the coachee, bc no matter what kind of coaching you choose for your organization : “ You can mandate that someone sit through a training session, but for coaching to work the person needs to actively engage in the process”.
