Last week I had the pleasure of attending the McDermott Will & Emery PPM + ASC Symposium with Curtis Bernstein and Jim Connors, CFA / ASA Connors through Pinnacle Healthcare Consulting’s sponsorship. This year’s conference was filled with insightful presentations and great conversations centered around the #ASC Industry. Here are my key takeaways: #ASC transaction trends are flatter than #physicianpractice transaction trends (declining) in the past 5 years. #Physician relationships are the biggest challenge for physician practices to be able to grow. #PrivateEquity continues to accelerate in the #PPM and ASC space, #healthcare needs the capital. Continued innovation in the #valuebasedcare space, but is very complex. The key is to collaborate with practices to ensure it is the right fit, right time, etc. to bring in a PPM. 60% of the market are combo deals (Practice and ASC) – want to win on value rather than win on price. One practice relationship is one practice relationship (like a snowflake). Same with health system relationships. #Healthsystems have a different timeline and may struggle to understand what a new relationship may need to entail. With the challenging reimbursement landscape affecting #FFS there is a continued need for #VBC opportunities! If you were in attendance, what were some of your takeaways?

Today I was given the opportunity to share a patient success story during townhall/grand rounds. I presented to executive leadership at Montefiore’s Moses and Children’s Hospital campus. Some major takeaways from my presentation was for healthcare providers to: 1. Acknowledge your patients strengths so they are able to build encouragement to advocate for themselves. 2. Think outside the box and dig a little deeper. There’s other things that could be going on that aren’t at the surface level that needs to be resolved. 3. Practice active listening. To advocate for your patients you need to listen to understand not listen to respond.
