Join the Super Connect for Good Showcase segment in our upcoming National #HealthTech Series event in #Leeds on 6th November 2024: Hosted by our CEO, Kosta Mavroulakis, FRSA, Super Connect for Good* is our Global Tech for Good initiative supported by Global Good. The showcase will feature not only former winners/finalists but also other Tech for Good startups in our wider network who will pitch to the audience and panellists: Graham Ewing, CEO, Director, Founder and co-owner of Mimex #Healthcare (UK): a project to commercialise the Strannik software. Strannik meets in its entirety the key and aims of objectives of the EC's EUR1.2BN funded Human Brain Project i.e to understand what the brain does and how it does it, and how this can be used to screen and treat the patient’s #health. It is based upon a combined cognitive #neuroscience/neuromodulation approach to screen the patient’s health more comprehensively than the entire range of #diagnostic tests against which were in routine clinical use and against which it was compared e.g. in cases of unmet clinical need, improving safety, reducing the complexity and cost of screening and treating the #patient, reducing #CO2 emissions; etc. Graham is the author of 90 peer-reviewed medical papers and conference presentations and has a ResearchGate Index of 15.50. The initiative is also co-designed in partnership with DocHQ and the NIHR Accelerated Surgical Care HealthTech Research Centre, hosted by GBS and supported by Rosely Group. UCLA Innovation Fund Pitch Day in MedTech was a spectacular showcase of groundbreaking innovation, collaboration, and ingenuity. Hosted by UCLA Technology Development Group, the event brought together top-tier academic minds, investors, and industry leaders to propel transformative technologies from concept to market. Highlights included diverse pitches from advanced medical devices to cutting-edge diagnostics, with projects such as real-time reproductive hormone monitoring, a novel ventriculoperitoneal shunt failure detection system, and revolutionary lung disease scoring from CT images. Serving as a panelist was an incredible experience, providing a unique opportunity to engage with visionary teams and evaluate their innovative solutions. It was inspiring to witness the passion and precision of the presenters as they shared their game-changing ideas, backed by rigorous research and a drive to address critical healthcare challenges. The collaborative discussions and feedback among panelists added immense value to shaping the future of these promising technologies. The event underscored UCLA's commitment to bridging academia and industry, emphasizing innovation in medical technology. The Digital Health Technologies Accelerator(DHTA) is a Northern Ireland based consortium led by Ulster University with partners at Queen’s University Belfast, We are really excited to announce our latest funded collaboration between Belfast City Council, HIRANI, Belfast Health & Social Care Trust and 14 MedTech companies in the Belfast area. This collaboration brings together a highly experienced team which spans research, development and innovation to position the DHTA at the forefront of sustainable, regional, digital health solutions. It will supercharge the region’s technological readiness through research in areas such as medical diagnostics, seeking to embed the ecosystem and infrastructure to enable NI to adopt new digital technologies for applications in MedTech, ranging from photonic sensing (using light to detect physical factors such as temperature and pressure) to machine learning algorithms, at a more rapid pace. The impact of DHTA’s work will improve outcomes for patients in Northern Ireland and reduce the strain on the healthcare system from an ageing population. One area of research that the DHTA will address is around heart failure devices and enabling diagnostic and disease management products for those suffering with heart disease, one of Northern Ireland’s biggest killers. I love this quote by Aric H. Bopp, CEcD: “One of the things I love about ASU is that they talk about research for the purpose of practical application. As we continue to conduct research in that way, that will drive additional outcomes for entrepreneurship and innovation.”   I would add that it also drives outcomes for #patients moving translational research from the laboratory to the bedside. The growth of the #bioscience ecosystem in #Arizona continues!

Transferring knowledge requires close collaboration, often involving training and mentorship, which can be resource-intensive. The complexity of technology and the intricate systems, processes, and components that may not be easily understood or replicated. The intellectual property (IP) and legal / regulatory barriers, and different incentives: universities, for example, often focus on research and publication, while companies prioritize profit and market application. The bureaucratic delays where the technology transfer process can be slowed by internal bureaucracy, approval chains, and differing priorities, and of course the communication gaps which can create misunderstandings and inefficiencies in the transfer process. Other elements could be market readiness, the uncertainty and risk of new tech, the cost of implementation, funding gaps, regulatory hurdles, ethical and environmental concerns, among many others.
