Community arts funding is essential!
A really concerning vote is happening on Thursday. After cancelling the funding for the Public Art Program, now there is a vote to cut funding to community grant recipients. Of particular importance (to me and many others), is Art City; a wildly important and necessary organization. These community organizations are what makes our city better, and provide children the opportunity to access a safe space and creative outlets. Sharing this here so if you feel as passionate about this organization as I know many colleagues already do, find a way to show support. Winnipeg can’t afford to lose this space. 🖼️🌇

It is the last day of #FairHousingMonth. Thank you to all the great FHIPs, FHAPs, nonprofits, and other organizations that hosted events throughout the month of April. I want to leave this year’s Fair Housing Month with a challenge: 1. If you have not, then go read ‘The Color of Law,’ written by Richard Rothstein. Rothstein argues with detailed examples how segregation in America is the result of explicit government policies at the local, state, and federal levels. In sum, de facto segregation is a myth. Those governmental policies continue to harm our cities today. 2. If you have not, then go read ‘Just Action,’ written by Richard and Leah Rothstein.
