Following last week’s King's Speech, and with a new government in place, our UK Managing Director, Patricia Moore, speaks to Building Magazine about the vital role the construction sector has to help deliver future growth plans across the UK. To do so, Patricia believes the industry must first tackle its capacity issues and widespread skills shortage, which will require ‘attracting different kinds of talent into the sector – both in terms of demographic and the technical skills that we need in the industry.’ Patricia said: “The biggest risk to the government’s agenda is that construction may lack the necessary capacity. What we are seeing as a business is that not only do we need more people in the sector, we need them to have a broader range of skills than ever before. For this reason, we should be just as focused on Labour’s education and training agenda as we are on headline development policy.” Read the article: https://bit.ly/46jFaTc #KingsSpeech #UKGovernment #skills #careers

🏡 🏗️ Exciting developments in England's planning landscape! 📜 The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) now emphasises SME-friendly initiatives like Paragraph 70, incorporating NFB's recommendations for small and medium-sized sites. Yet, defining "medium-sized" is crucial for effective implementation. 📊 Michael Gove's announcement of planning league tables and penalties, along with addressing extension of time requests, signifies a significant step forward for the industry. The NFB are looking forward to tangible improvements in the planning system! 🔨 Let's build a brighter future, one small and medium sized site at a time! By focusing on smaller development projects, we ensure that every home is crafted with care by the finest builders, fostering quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Join the NFB in championing this approach to urban development. Some positive short term news for Southampton, but the sheer volume of councils up and down the country applying for capitilisation directives in desperate bids to avoid bankruptcy only brings into sharp focus the incredibly difficult landscape in which local government is operating right now. Many of us joined the sector wanting to do good. Proud public servants who believe in what we do and why we do it. Without question councils provide an invaluable service often to those most in need across our communities. Without the services local government provide our society is poorer. It’s true to say the sector is broken. Very sad and challenging times 😔 https://lnkd.in/ebifMaFF

Great member content being produced by UDIA QLD on development assessment fees costs and trends. Apart from knowing what you are in for $wise statewide, it also gives a real indication of which Councils are working hard to invite development into their cities. A sneaky snippet below of the SEQ vs Regional average fees. Chat to the UDIA QLD if you would like the rest of this informative report which gives a lot more in-depth quality information on a Council by Council basis to assist you in deciding where to invest for your next development. #UDIAQLD #SSKBSTRATADEVELOPMENTCONSULTANCY #SSKBSTRATAMANAGEMENT
