Last week, during my trip to #Copenhagen I visited Danish Architecture Center #DAC where I came across a case study of "breathing new life into unloved building" in Sydney. Even in a relatively new commercial real estate market such as Poland, the trend of conversion of older buildings is getting more popular as the available land for new construction is becoming scarce, the architectural shape of a building becomes obsolete/not allowing for enough floor space or there is a higher demand for a different function in the area. Currently we are witnessing some #ESG examples of transforming office buildings (mainly) for the living purpose on the Polish market and only more are about to happen, which I hope we will be able to explore in different architecture museums soon! But for now, more about this phenomenon is in our report, link in the comment 💡

Building a green future Sustainable architecture is more than a trend; it is an urgent need in a world that demands environmental solutions. It represents the harmony between building and preserving, between living and respecting. But why is it so important? Well, not only does it reduce our ecological footprint, but it also improves the quality of life, and believe it or not, it can even make our pockets a little bigger. Let’s dive into this green universe and discover how sustainability can be the basis of the future of architecture. In short, sustainable architecture is like a superhero of the real world, fighting the villain of environmental degradation. Not only does it protect our planet, it also provides us with a healthier, more economical home. And who knows, maybe one day, all the buildings will follow his example and the Earth will become a big green and sustainable house.

Ever thought about the tactile beauty of vertical timber cladding in modern architecture? This cabin by the lake does more than just sit within its environment – it thrives in it. The use of natural wood not only deepens the connection with the autumnal landscape but aligns with the growing trend towards sustainable materials. I recall a client feeling genuinely moved by how woodwork melded with their forested surroundings. Interestingly, statistics reveal that sustainable buildings can reduce energy use by up to 30%. This cabin reflects that through its timber materials paired with energy-efficient metal roofing. What other materials do you think hold promise for future sustainable designs? Let's chat about innovative integration of natural materials in modern architecture. How do you see it evolving?

SUSTAINABILITY at Herzog & de Meuron "Sustainable architecture is adapted to local conditions, uses renewable and durable materials, and is able to be repurposed. It draws from what already exists and extends the social fabric rather than overwriting it. It creates value that goes beyond the given task and site. As architects we therefore have to question not only widespread construction methods, typologies and ideas of comfort, but also familiar aesthetics and ways of life." Its remarkable energy and microclimate concept of the community center Arena do Morro remain overlooked due to its social focus.
