India is, once again, at a crossroads. The recent brutal rape-murder case of a female Kolkata doctor is not just another statistic- it is a grim reminder of the realities of our country. It is a piercing alarm, which forces us to wake up. It's not just about doctors or women. It's a clear sign of systemic failures that still affect our nation today. It reflects our inability: to protect, respect and value the lives of our citizens. Despite the outrage and promises after the Nirbhaya case, people continue to suffer. Even our homes remain unsafe, and our hearts feel heavy knowing that this could happen again—to any of us. The question remains: when will we be safe? How many more incidents will we address the root of this violence?

The Dramatic Decade: Landmark Cases of Modern India by Indu Bhan Available @ www.vintagevaluebooks.in The courts in India are struggling with a huge backlog of cases. As of 2016, there are 27 million pending cases and close to 90 million people are still waiting for justice. To the common man, this is just a number. But some cases have impacted the collective conscious of the entire nation. These include the trial of Afzal Guru, the Nirbhaya case, the criminalization of homosexuality, the Parliament attack case, the Babri Masjid demolition and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. There was a lot that happened inside the courts during these trials which has remained hidden from public view. The Dramatic Decade is a collection of these stories. The book gives the reader a ringside view of what happened both inside and outside the courts. What were the arguments made, which lawyers fought the cases, what was the court's judgment and how did it affect the common man are some of the many questions answered here. https://lnkd.in/gNC9Tiq8

It’s unfortunate that people often follow what's trending on social media rather than standing up for what is truly right or wrong. The recent incident in Kolkata is not the only one of its kind—similar crimes have happened elsewhere too, but how many of those have received attention? Whether the crime happens in Kolkata or any other place, it’s the same heinous act, and I strongly condemn it! I hope the culprits are brought to justice and face the punishment they deserve. But let me be clear—simply sitting behind a screen and declaring that 'India isn't safe' or 'we aren't truly free' is baseless. Travel to other countries, and you'll realize just how safe & better India is in comparison. Yes, women’s safety remains a serious concern, and it’s not just about laws; it’s our collective responsibility to always speak up against wrongs and ensure a safe environment for everyone, not just when something goes viral! And I believe that the safety of not just women but every individual should be a top priority for every government. #BetterWorld #KinderWorld

The Heartbreaking Cost of Justice in India: A Systemic Challenge The pursuit of justice in India is not just about legal battles—it’s about enduring an exhausting, often heartbreaking journey. While justice can be attained if one is persistent enough, the toll it takes is immense. It’s not just about the financial cost, but the energy, mental health, dignity, and helplessness that weigh heavy on anyone navigating this system. Money or influence may ease some of these burdens, but they can never fully overcome the systemic hurdles. What’s more troubling is that this isn’t a flaw in the system—it’s how our legal system was designed during British rule, and it’s been preserved by the legal elite for nearly a century. Despite many reforms, judicial and police reforms remain elusive. This deeply entrenched structure seems almost untouchable, and perhaps that’s why demands for true systemic change—especially from street movements—rarely focus on these critical areas. “We want justice” becomes a hollow slogan without real judicial and police reforms. Without addressing these core issues, are we just perpetuating a cycle that leaves many defeated and disillusioned? What’s your perspective on the need for systemic legal reforms in India? #justice #legalreforms #systemicchange #judiciary #policereforms #legalcommunity #socialjustice #lawandorder #indianlegalsystem
