The U.S. is making significant progress towards meeting the ambitious Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production goals set by the Biden Administration. At the North American SAF Conference & Expo, industry leaders expressed optimism about hitting the target of producing three billion gallons of SAF annually by 2030. In the first half of 2024, production surged to 52 million gallons, up from just five million in 2021. With senior officials from the Departments of Energy, Agriculture, and Transportation sharing positive outlooks, SAF is poised to become a long-term solution for decarbonizing the aviation industry. https://lnkd.in/gkER-Qeh #SustainableAviation #SAF #CleanEnergy #Decarbonization #Aviation #RenewableFuel #EnergyTransition #FutureOfFlight #Innovation #GreenEnergy #Sustainability NXTClean Fuels

You’ve probably heard of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). But did you know there are many ways to create SAF, and these differences matter greatly in terms of overall emissions reductions. For example, our partners at Twelve report that Power-to-Liquid fuels, fuels that convert CO2 directly into SAF, represent the most promising SAF pathway because they require the least land and water to produce. Read more about SAF, PtL fuels, and the important role direct air capture can play, in Twelve’s report, Know Your SAF -> t.ly/HnkjZ #carbondioxide #SAF #sustainableaviationfuels

✈️ The aviation industry is taking significant steps towards sustainability, with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at the forefront of this transformation. However, SAF supply remains one of the key challenges. 📈 Despite SAF production growing by over 53% last year, it only amounted to 0.1% of the US’s aviation fuel consumption. The industry must grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 200% to achieve three billion gallons of SAF production by 2030. 🔎 Demand for SAF is surging, but supply remains a critical challenge. Our in-depth analysis by João Pedro Rodrigues Morciani explores these dynamics. #SAF2050 Grand Challenge is the result of DOE, DOT, and USDA launching a government-wide Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will attempt to reduce the cost, enhance the sustainability, and expand the production and use of SAF while meeting the following goals: A minimum of a 50% reduction in life cycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional fuel. 3 billion gallons per year of domestic SAF by 2030. 35 billion gallons of SAF to satisfy 100% of domestic demand by 2050. The SAF Grand Challenge and the increased production of SAF will play a critical role in a broader set of actions by the United States government and the private sector to reduce the aviation sector’s emissions in a manner consistent with the goal of net-zero emissions for the U.S. economy, and to put the aviation sector on a pathway to net-zero emissions by 2050. #netzero2050 #call4actionSAF
