Inks are one of the elements assessed as part of the #certification of #compostable products.   The main challenge concerns the potentially ecotoxic effects of these inks on #compost. These effects are verified using tests (#OECD 208) on various particularly sensitive plants by measuring emergence and growth rates under different combinations of reference compost and compost after #biodegradation and #disintegration of the products to be certified.   The other aspect concerns the presence of regulated elements in the inks (copper, etc ). Although more easily measurable, this is nevertheless a challenge for certain colors and regularly leads to limits being set on the quantity of ink authorised in order to comply with the limits imposed by the standards.   💡 Good to know that an ink certified for industrial composting (#EN13432) is also approved for home composting.   Finally, the printing of logos on certified products is also regulated (graphic charter) and the artistic creation illustrating this post is obviously not authorised 😊.
