#6 option for generating value from your existing media content, is more sociological than directly related to revenue but is fundamental. Every rights holder is, by default, the guardian of their sports/club's history. History, heritage, and the stories told through existing content are critical elements of how an individual’s passing interest turns into fanaticism. Beyond the family loyalties, it is the cultural ties, the historical successes, and the back stories that create the embedded connections, as well as solidify the authenticity and integrity that audiences are after as well as giving younger fans the knowledge and ‘ammunition’ to engage in debate, discussion and what us ‘oldies’ would refer to as banter, well beyond the event itself. Not the usual business-related post but will appeal to sports-lovers and, particularly, anyone of my vintage who grew up with a dearth of televised sport. My lifelong friend, Matt Eastley, has written "Brian Moore Saved Our Sundays" and it is published today. Meticulously researched and with contributions from a wide range of "those that were there", it's sure to be an interesting and entertaining read. https://lnkd.in/e_-7-pGy

The 2024 Pan American Open starts tomorrow. For those unfamiliar with memory sports we get 1 minute to memorize information in 6 different events and 4 minutes to recall. The 6 events are Cards, Images, Numbers, Names, International Names and Words which is probably my favourite event. With the exception of Names/International Names we accomplish this by converting information to images and throwing it in locations which we are visualizing in our mind. For example, if I got a word pairing like "turtle tree", I would visualize a turtle climbing a tree and place it in whatever location I am using. If I got a pairing like "charismatic handsome", well I would just see myself but that's an easy one. I prefer Words to the other events because you need to create the images as you go. Cards/Numbers are a bit different where each athlete encodes imagery for the cards/numbers, there's some different systems but the premise is the same, we give meaning to something abstract. I will put some cards examples below so you can sort of what is in my head.
