This is the best example of a Scope 3 partner for SGTech. It’s all about an organisation’s credibility. While no law or suggestions exist to-date calling for non-profits like trade associations to be accountable for their environmental, social, and governance practices, one can’t go around pitching sustainability accountability to others without practising what one preaches. The good thing is, precisely because no law or suggestion exists to-date calling for non-profits to be accountable for their ESG practices, there is no deadline and no prescription of scope of accountability, and everything is left to the non-profit to determine. I’m glad to say that under my charge, when it comes to delivering sustainability offerings to our user base, SGTech has commenced the practice of appointing only ESG accountable organisations in our value chain of sustainability partners. This matters to our users who have to be sustainability accountable. As we slowly expand our sustainability offerings, we will seek more partners who are ESG accountable. For the uninitiated, what this means is that firms (including consultancy firms) without sustainability accountability are requested to provide your first set of ESG data together with your tender proposal before we can evaluate your submission. Your ESG data only need to provide us enough information in order that we can aggregate your data to account for our total value chain ESG impact (which will include yours). 🌍 Reflections on Authoring Sustainable Living Lab (SL2)'s 2023 Sustainability Report 🌍 I am excited to share that our latest Sustainability Report is now published! Having had the privilege of authoring this report, I wanted to share some key insights I gained through this experience: 1. Quality Over Quantity: I learned that a sustainability report doesn't have to be exhaustive to the point of being overwhelming. It's about prioritizing the key messages we want to convey and doing it well. Clear, concise communication can often be more impactful than a sea of details. 2. Collaborative Effort: This report exemplifies a true bottom-up approach. It's not just the work of the sustainability team or a solo effort; it's a collaborative endeavor that involves input from all teams across the organization. The collective effort truly shines through in the final product. 3. Bridging Knowledge Gaps: Writing the report highlighted just how much there is to learn about the incredible work being done by different departments. There’s often a gap in understanding what the other teams in your organisation are up to and gathering information for the report was a fantastic way to appreciate the value added by various teams. 4. Invaluable Insights: Even if publishing a sustainability report isn't mandatory for your organization, the insights gained from such an exercise are invaluable. It provides a comprehensive view of your environmental and social performance, that can go a long way in optimising your performance and strategising as an organization. 5. Accountability Through Targets: Setting targets in the report is a powerful way to hold ourselves accountable. It ensures that we remain committed to our sustainability goals and actions throughout the year. No one wants to be caught slacking when it's time for the next report! 😄 I'm incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and grateful for the opportunity to work with such a dedicated team.
