"I am what I am today because of education." An academic - economist first and then a politician, someone who had the instincts of a round-the-clock technocrat with less belligerent attitude of a pompous politician. Dr. Singh always had the knack for uplifting the lives of the downtrodden. From reading under a kerosene lamp, he had made his journey to some of the most prestigious universities of the world, all on his own academic merit. It was under his economic leadership as the country's finance minister that India opened up to the world for a better future. Having himself risen from his humble beginnings from Gah, a small village in present day Pakistan, to occupying the highest office in the Indian Democray, Dr. Singh was a classic example to understand the importance of education. His years as the Prime Minister were a testament to his untiring efforts for the marginalized communities and his commitment to strengthening democracy, in various legislations such as the RTI, MNREGA, Right to education to name a few. He did not believe in plaintalking, which was at once his weakness and strength rolled into one. He was man of few words but whatever he spoke, it always struck the right chord. A genial politician whose humility is a rare occurrence in mainstream political class. Today I write this missive as a homeage to a real hero, who has epitomized the idea of dreaming big and manifesting it to reality through the shear power of education, someone whom history would admire more and judge less. #india #drmanmohansingh #education #rip #linkedinforcreators #linkedin
