John Lynn and Colin Hung love to explore exhibit halls at conferences. They believe it is the best place to connect with new friends and old acquaintances. There isn't a better place to learn about the latest trends in the healthcare industry. However, according to a new survey of healthcare journalists by Innsena – they are oddballs. Their survey found that only 27% of media folks go to the exhibit hall and even fewer (14%) attend sessions. For more interesting survey results and to see if YOU'RE an oddball, check this out! https://lnkd.in/gv9AufBa

Are healthcare journalists and editors at conferences like the Saola - a mammal rarely seen in the wild? The answer is yes (kind of). The team at Innsena polled 100 journalists and editors that cover the healthcare and digital health industry. Their survey reveals that: 🎤 86% attend conferences to do interviews 🚶♂️27% explore the exhibit hall 🗣 14% go to speaking sessions ...or put another way, media, like healthcare buyers, are not at conferences to "explore". They are focused on achieving their main goal. Disclosure: I love exploring exhibit halls and I enjoy speaking sessions that offer unique perspectives on a topic. So what does this mean for PR and marketing pros? PRE-WORK. Pre-work ahead of the conference is key to media success in healthcare. You need to proactively reach out to arrange meetings ahead of time. Even better, establish a relationship with journalists and editors. You know that upcoming conference you're hosting this fall... (yes, you) ... check out my media outreach consulting package below and let me know if it sounds like something you're interested to optimize the media coverage of your event.
Consulting package # 2, just in time for fall conference season! I've covered a lot of conferences in my day ... and there's a lot of guess work for reporters trying to plan out their schedules. Admiral XYZ has already spoken at two other events recently; will s/he say anything new at this event, or is it a waste of time to go? There are two conference panels happening simultaneously; which is more likely to make news? As a conference or event host, getting the most -- and most accurate -- news coverage takes some leg work ahead of the event. Let me help you plan and execute that media outreach! See the attachment for more info on my media outreach package. Let me know if I can help with your upcoming event! And, of course, I'm happy to craft something that's more specifically tailored to your needs.

One of the major downsides of working in industry is that you can't talk about the coolest things you're working on RIGHT NOW! Which means that when it's time to submit abstracts for conferences, you usually get stuck standing at a poster that no one visits. And this just reaffirms this weird narrative that nothing interesting is happening in industry because all of our coolest work can't be talked about until it's public. Which: 1) is rarely timed well with the conference circuit and 2) by the time most things make it to market, it's already old news. Hence getting 'postered.' One way to get out of this cycle is to bring an audience to you and your work by being more active on social media! You didn't get a talk at the conference? Talk about it online. The audience here is way bigger than it will be at any conference anyway!

I am planing to attend the "World Congress of News Media" organized by INMA in London. (Apr. 24-26, 2024.) Let's be frank, I go there, because amazing prospects of Email Hero also go. Would I like to sell? Obviously, but if that's my primary goal, then I think I won't sell anything. So, here is my plan for the conference: - learn about real-life (newsletter-related) problems of digital publishers. - get to know a few people I resonate with (Yes, I wanna make friends. Is that weird?) Hmm. My plan is not complex at all! If you go to the conference but you often feel alone at such events, let's meet. Let's be lonely together!
