EPR legislation has been ramping up. In the past few years, more and more bills have been introduced, proposing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging, batteries, paint, mattresses, and more. It's important that the waste and resource recovery sector have a seat at the table to help determine the direction of these policies. SWANA Director of Public Policy, Kristyn Oldendorf, attended a roundtable discussion hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce on EPR, joining businesses and associations from across the value chain. Participants agreed with the need to have all stakeholders involved in determining EPR policies. The group discussed the potential for EPR to enable safer working conditions, a priority for SWANA, especially with respect to lithium-ion batteries and other materials. SWANA members play an essential role in enabling recycling and recovery of materials, with the infrastructure, expertise and knowledge to strengthen recycling systems. SWANA will continue to represent the needs of members in these conversations. #SWANASafety #ClimateChampions

As the demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) continues to grow, driven by the increasing use of electric vehicles and portable electronics, the need for effective recycling solutions becomes ever more critical. In Australia, a robust framework of policies and regulations governs the recycling of LIBs to ensure environmental protection and resource recovery. Understanding these regulations is essential for industry stakeholders, including manufacturers, recyclers, and policymakers. In this post, we examine the current policies and regulations, their impact on the industry, and potential changes on the horizon. . . . . #BatteryRecycling #SustainableLiving #EcoFriendly #OscorpEnergy #GreenTech https://lnkd.in/g6zz-mjH

Wow! Finally! It's been nearly 5 years in the making, but they've only gone and done it! The UK Government has FINALLY published illustrative base fees for packaging EPR. In the second year of EPR, fees will be modulated to ensure that packaging materials with a lower environmental impact will be the least expensive for producers to use. The specific packaging types subject to higher or lower (“modulated”) fees will be announced in Autumn 2024 (so pretty soon, hopefully). For a long time, it was starting to feel a little like 'crying wolf,' especially in the brands I worked for. More than a few folks doubted EPR would happen or, if it did, would be much watered down. And I don't blame them—it's been almost 5 years of false dawns. Now that the illustrative fees are out, let's hope any businesses yet to plan for this feel better equipped to do so! With New Zealand currently consulting on proposals for an EPR 'lite' scheme focused on single-use plastic packaging, let's hope this level of indecision and uncertainty isn't experienced here… https://lnkd.in/g-6_3fH7

More practical way of implementation. Real result based reference. No day dreaming high-tech. Supremely tangible solution.
To better showcase the Smart O&M solution in action and a testimonial, this month we share the customer story in the form of a video. CEP, a holding company of CITIC Private Equity (CITICPE), is a specialized environmental protection enterprise group that focuses on investment and operation for the entire industrial chain of hazardous waste disposal. CEP owns 11 subsidiaries and 8 comprehensive hazardous waste disposal centers. Its business qualification covers 43 categories out of 46 in the national hazardous waste list. The permitted capacity of hazardous waste disposal reaches 800,000 tons per year, ranking among the top in the industry in China. The cooperation between CEP and Siveco China started in 2020. Up to now, including the Suzhou plant, a total of 7 sites chose to implement Siveco China’s Smart O&M solution, aligned with a group-wide Core Model. The implementation of the system is the key to achieve the centralized, standardized and visual management of all CEP’s assets, improve the efficiency and quality of equipment management, optimize O&M costs and control risks. https://lnkd.in/gbDFetHm

CIWM has released a white paper titled “An EPR of Everything, Starting with Batteries,”. The paper underscores the urgency of implementing a targeted deposit return scheme (DRS) for batteries. This measure aligns closely with our top priorities at #ACOR, addressing the alarming surge in fires caused by discarded batteries. By advocating for extended producer responsibility and more explicit consumer guidance, we can significantly enhance #batteryrecycling. #CircularEconomy #SustainableRecycling #BatterySafety #EPR #DepositReturnScheme
