City & County of Swansea’s Post

A new partnership aimed at further moving Swansea towards a net-zero future has been announced.   Swansea Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SSE Energy Solutions to work together towards helping the city reach net zero status by 2050.   Council Leader Rob Stewart said: “We all know about the impact climate change is having and will have, which is why we have set the ambitious target of becoming a net zero city within the next 25 years.   “As a council we have already taken some important steps with our new generation of energy-efficient homes, we have the biggest local authority electric vehicle fleet in Wales and we are leading on other projects which aim to both reduce our carbon footprint and boost and protect nature conservation.   “But we will only achieve net zero by all of us working together - the council, our public and private sector partners, residents and businesses.   “Our agreement with SSE Energy Solutions brings their expertise to the table as we work with them to decarbonise energy, foster green skills and create lasting opportunities for local communities while pioneering new pathways to a cleaner, greener future.”   Noel Powell, Head of Regeneration at SSE Energy Solutions, said: “This strategic partnership between SSE and Swansea Council marks a pivotal step in advancing Swansea’s journey towards a net zero future. By uniting SSE’s expertise in renewable energy solutions with Swansea’s ambitious low-carbon vision, we can accelerate the deployment of innovative energy projects and accelerate local green jobs to residents, businesses, and communities.   “Together, we are committed to making Swansea a model for clean energy leadership and achieving carbon neutrality for the Council by 2030 and for the city by 2050."

Great to hear City & County of Swansea is taking further steps towards net zero. I’m wondering if all the upcoming advancements to the city consider net zero too?
