City & County of Swansea 📣 “Helping to boost footfall and support traders, plans for a major new development in Swansea city centre have taken a big step forward. Planning consent has now been granted for a public sector hub building at the former St David's Shopping Centre site. The development will include commercial floor space for shops and restaurants, with the council occupying office space above with a range of other public sector partners. Made up of four floors above ground level and one floor below, hundreds of workers will be based there. Swansea Council and its regeneration partners Urban Splash will develop the proposed public sector hub, with ownership retained by the council. This would form the first phase of the overall site's redevelopment being led by Urban Splash, who are continuing to work on plans for the rest of the site. The public sector hub would also enable the redevelopment of the Civic Centre site on the seafront. Urban Splash are continuing to work on proposals for that site, which will be made available for public feedback as soon as they're finalised. Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: "The public sector hub will help generate more footfall in the city centre, which will boost our existing traders and help attract more investment in future. "This is just one feature of an overall plan for the redevelopment of the former St David's Shopping Centre site though, so we'll continue to work with Urban Splash on other proposals for the site that will be announced as soon as they're ready for feedback. "Our plans for this development site are part of a £1bn regeneration programme that's unfolding in Swansea to benefit our residents and businesses. This shows how committed we are to creating jobs and high-quality facilities as Swansea is transformed into one of the UK's best cities to live, work, enjoy, study and visit. "Alongside our partners in the private sector and others, this work is bearing fruit. "Swansea's economy is projected to be the seventh fastest growing in the UK next year, which is testament to all that's been achieved so far and our plans for the future." Planning application submitted for City Centre West first phase and masterplan City of Wolverhampton Council and ECF – a partnership between Homes England, Legal & General, and Muse – have submitted a hybrid planning application for City Centre West in Wolverhampton. The partnership has put forward detailed plans for phase one, which includes over 330 new high-quality homes, as well as retail opportunities on disused land between Peel Street and Market Square. The submission also includes outline plans for the remaining phases of the masterplan. As well as delivering over 1,000 new homes, including affordable homes, the masterplan offers new opportunities for shops, cafes, and restaurants – and will support the delivery of an enhanced Market Square. By delivering a thriving new place, the masterplan is part of an economic strategy to bring more people into the city centre, boost footfall and elevate Wolverhampton’s wider offer. Initial concepts for City Centre West were made public earlier this year. The submission of the application follows extensive engagement with the community and other partners, which helped shape the final design. As the local planning authority, City of Wolverhampton Council will now consider the application before making a final decision. This is expected in early 2025 and, if approved, construction of the first phase could begin as soon as next year. Feedback is wanted next week on a proposal for a major new public sector hub in Swansea city centre. The public sector hub being earmarked for land at the former St David's Shopping Centre site would include commercial floor space for shops and restaurants, with the council and a range of other public sector partners occupying office space above. A drop-in information and consultation event about the proposed new public sector hub is taking place from Tuesday August 13 to Thursday August 15 at the former Cranes music shop unit on St David's Place in the city centre. The times of the consultation are: ➡️ Tuesday August 13: 1pm to 7pm ➡️ Wednesday August 14: 1pm to 7pm ➡️ Thursday August 15: 9am to 1pm A website where people can see the plans will be announced on Tuesday when the consultation starts. At this stage feedback will be sought on the design and look of the building, which would meet the highest standards of sustainability. More opportunities to give views will also be made available as part of the planning process in future. More investigation works will soon take place at a Swansea city centre development site as preparations for major regeneration plans continue. The works will be carried out by regeneration specialist Urban Splash as part of working up proposals for the site in the area of the former St David's Shopping Centre in partnership with experienced real estate developer Milligan. Following on from a day of similar works last month, the next site investigation works will start from Monday May 13 and will last for about a week. A section of the grassed area outside St David's Church Hall will be fenced off while the works are ongoing, with every effort made to ensure minimum disruption to the public. Urban Splash is Swansea Council's long-term regeneration partner for a number of sites in the city centre and on the waterfront. Detailed mixed-use proposals for the St David's site are currently in development and will include a public sector hub as well as a new city office quarter, generating new jobs within the region as well as boosting city centre footfall for surrounding businesses and beyond. Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: "Led by Urban Splash in partnership with Milligan, the plans for the former St David's Shopping Centre site area are a key part of our city centre's ongoing £1bn transformation, which is continuing at pace. "They'll add to all other schemes that are either complete or planned to create a more vibrant city centre for residents, businesses and visitors, while also creating jobs for local people." Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: "Once they're ready, detailed plans for this scheme will be made available for public feedback. They'll help create a fantastic new area linking the city centre with the new bridge over Oystermouth Road, Swansea Arena and the coastal park, while also generating more footfall for our existing businesses. "Site investigation works are a normal part of any major redevelopment scheme, but they show the progress that's now being made on these plans, which are part of our commitment to deliver a more thriving city centre for the benefit of all." Other sites set to be redeveloped by Urban Splash in the coming years include the Civic Centre site on the seafront. Proposals for that site will also be made available for public feedback once they're developed in more detail.

Retailers are wanted for a number of new units forming part of the 71/72 Kingsway development in Swansea city centre. Several retail units measuring between 500 square feet and 2,500 square feet will be located at street level, fronting onto The Kingsway. Operators are also wanted for a coffee shop inside the building, as well as for a rooftop space. Providing space for around 600 jobs, the 71/72 Kingsway scheme is being developed by Swansea Council and part-funded by the £1.3bn Swansea Bay City Deal - Bargen Ddinesig Bae Abertawe. BOUYGUES UK, who are leading on the development's construction, soon anticipate completion with an internal fitout to follow in the coming months. There is significant interest from several potential tenants with a number of current live proposals. Positive discussions about the take-up of space for the majority of the building are ongoing. Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: "Taking shape at a site that had been a hole in the ground following the demolition of the former Oceana nightclub, this new development will be worth £32.6m a year to Swansea's economy once it's operational. "It will meet local need for high-quality, flexible office space while also boosting city centre footfall and spending because of the hundreds of people who will work there. "Increasing the number of people working and living in the city centre also helps Swansea attract retailers and leisure operators. "We are seeing good demand for the office space and are looking forward to announcing some lettings in due course. There are also opportunities for retailers, a coffee shop operator and a rooftop area operator to be part of the development too, so we'd encourage any businesses which are interested to get in touch." #News: A £5m scheme to revamp a key part of the #Anfield community, creating a greener and safer experience, is to be discussed next week. The Council's Cabinet will also explore a meanwhile use plan for Anfield Square. A report to Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet next Tuesday (8 October) is recommending the main road (Walton Breck Road) – and connecting streets – including those leading to Liverpool Football Club's stadium, be upgraded. The report also highlights plans for a number of key priority sites, across Anfield, including Hodder Street and former Four Oaks school site, the southern side of Walton Breck Road and Oakfield Road, and Kemp Avenue which have been identified for potential residential and retail development. These schemes represent the latest phase in a £300m investment programme in the Anfield area, which first began in 2014. The focus of this element will be on highway and public realm upgrades along Walton Breck Road, Oakfield Road, Pulford Street, Back Rockfield Road and Gilman Street, such as new improved carriageways and crossings, as well as providing new on-street and resident parking bays with a focus on rationalising car parking, bus stops and taxi ranks. The aim of the scheme will be to improve walking routes, create wider footpaths, add new landscaping and public realm features, as well as planting new trees and installing additional underground superbins. It will also assist in integrating surrounding regeneration projects.
