Program Highlight: Mental Health First Aid May being Mental Health Awareness month, we wanted to talk about our Mental Health First Aid program at Valley Cities. WHAT is mental health first aid? Just as CPR training prepares people without medical backgrounds to help someone who is having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid trains people to help someone who is at risk of developing a mental health problem or who is going through a mental health crisis. This training, offered FREE to those over 18 living or working in King County gives participants the resources and skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to someone experiencing a crisis, using a 5-step action plan. Interested in learning more about the program? Look no further than https://lnkd.in/gSJkF3Gi

Mental Health First Aid In today’s society, the importance of supporting mental health has never been greater. Some of the stigmas are starting to lift and this has given way to more conscious assessment of one mental health and the true fact that ‘its ok, not to be ok’. This highlights the critical need to train your staff, equipping them to provide appropriate support in the workplace, whether to colleagues or customers. We offer the Mental Health First Aid course in partnership with Mood Mental Health Training and led by Brendan Roy. Brendan is an experienced Mental Health First Aid Instructor with a background in Education which spans over 20 years. In his roles as a senior leader, Brendan has supported mental health whilst working in secondary schools and across a multi academy trust. Reflecting on our Mental Health First Aid Outreach at Ipakodo Senior Grammar School where we empowered students and educators with the knowledge and skills to support mental well-being. From understanding mental health challenges to learning how to offer first aid support, every session was a step toward a healthier, more informed school environment. Because when schools prioritize mental well-being, the entire community thrives! What’s one thing you believe every school should know about mental health? Do you work with someone that is currently struggling? This might interest you. Mental Health First Aid Aotearoa teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves. Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health challenge, and the treatments and supports available. Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, course participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns. Participants also learn how to offer initial support and information and how to encourage the person to seek professional help or other supports. Adults who complete a course become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders), equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when it matters most. Great news - Aotearoa have now designed the workshop specifically for New Zealand. Learn more. Why train in mental health first aid? When it comes to mental health, we are not always confident in knowing how to support a friend, family member or colleague experiencing a mental health issue or where to go for support. Mental Health First Aid, or MHFA, is an internationally recognised training course which teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of poor mental health and provide help on a first-aid basis. Used alone, it will not reduce poor mental health or mental ill-health. The training needs to be a part of your broader wellbeing strategy. I am delivering a MHFA England Adult mental health first aid course face to face on 11th and 12th November this is a two day course from 9am-5pm in Milton Keynes please get in touch to find out more and secure your space. info@bmrhealthandwellbeing.co.uk #mhfa #mhfaengland #firstaid #workplacewellbeing #education Sheila Lord (MCIPS) Kirstine Nicholson

Let's start this year off right. Join me as I facilitate a virtual Mental Health First Aid Training on Jan. 24th, 2025. https://lnkd.in/e9zfQEmT Work, Church, and School Mental Health First Aid is important. Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting these conversations by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental health or substance use challenge. When more people are equipped with the tools to start a dialogue, more people can get the help they need. Mental Health First Aiders are a vital link, connecting those experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge with appropriate support.
